i have gone thru the ongoing pc configs discussion and am alot confused on which processor, what motherboard etc. etc

I have a samsung 210T with speakers and now on the lookout for a good cpu

i am looking for moderate usage home pc with windows xp, more of children games (not hitech gaming), mp3, photos and anything more that i should look at suggestions welcome.

pls suggest me whether to go for branded stuff, if yes then the brand with model number or if assembled then
1) which processor
2) motherboard
3) hard disk capacity
4) cd / dvd burner (for good music / movies)
5) how much ram
6) speed
7) whether to go for bluetooth connectivity
8) what all would i need like USB, firewire etc.
9) graphics card for Dvi output
10) any further suggestions

as i would like to have a neat config with a moderate budget pls suggest in a way that i can get it between 15 to 20k

1) which processor ---> AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ = 4k
2) motherboard ----> Asus M2N-MX = 3.8k
3) hard disk capacity------> 160GB SATAII = ~ 2.5k
4) cd / dvd burner (for good music / movies) -----> LG H44N = 1.4k
5) how much ram -----2GB DDR2 667MHz = 3.8k
6) speed
7) whether to go for bluetooth connectivity----Helps if you have BT handset
8) what all would i need like USB, firewire etc.---There are plenty of USB ports on the motherboard, No firewire though.
9) graphics card for Dvi output ------> Nvidia 6200LE if you are not a gamer = 2k max.
10) any further suggestions---> Dont forget a good PSU.People tend to neglect it.Preferably go for Powersafe 500W. = 2.2k or so

I hope that helps you.

Just get a bigger Hdd thats all as 320 GB is for 3.2k. For firewire get a add one card will be for .5k , for power supply there is a cooler master 380 watts for 1k. which will be more than enough for your application.

Intel is faster than AMD but it is cheaper than the same. here is a simple average comparison of speeds. as you are going to use it is a media centre , AMD 4000+ X2 is more than enough as you are never going to use it full potential never.

For intel, you can think of Intel Pentium E2140/E2160 which are based on the Core architecture, same as all Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad ones. They are cheap, run extremely cool, very cheap.
Any of the 2 models mentioned above coupled with a 945G or 946 chipset based Asus/Intel motherboard.

Intel C2D 64-bit cpu
Asus Chipset
Nvidia-ATI DX10 GPU
capacity depends on your needs
2gb is bare minimum for vista (make sure its Dual-channel DDRII)

rest all is upto you. price will go around 35-45

the C2D is a 32-bit processor not a 64 bit. It can emulates it as 64-bit.
and I dont think he need so powerfull config. A AMD dual core can do a fantastic job.

Naa Core 2 duo is native 64bit. Atleast it runs 64bit software properly and runs it faster than any AMD chip out there. How it does internally, no clue!

I have recently gone for CPU upgrade for Rs. 22K and the config is ...

- Intel Core2 duo E6320 (1.86 GHz)
- 120 GB SATA HDD
- 2 GB RAM
- DVD RW
- Intel DG965RY Mother board (With onboard Audio, Graphics, LAN, etc)
- Casing with SMPS

and it is performing far better than my previous Pentium IV 2.8 GHz.

If you plan to overclock and AMD based then
1) which processor> AMD AM2 X2 3600+ 1.9Ghz Brisbane- 3k max
2) motherboard > Jetway 692GDG 3K or lower or Asus M2N-MX- 3k odd
3) hard disk capacity> 160GB Hitachi SataII- 2.2k or lower and the bare min imho
4) cd / dvd burner (for good music / movies)> LiteOn 20A1P/S or Sony AWG170S
5) how much ram- Kingston 2x1GB DDR2 667- 3.7k odd
6) speed< ???????????????????
7) whether to go for bluetooth connectivity- a usb bluetooth dongle for 300 bucks and upwards should do the job
8) what all would i need like USB, firewire etc.- mobos thes days have 8-10 USB ports, Firewire if u strictly need FW- USB 2.0 is quite fast
9) graphics card for Dvi output- both mobos above have built in onboard gfx for mild low level gaming
10) any further suggestions> get a good psu- a cheap but effective powersafe 500W is the bare minimum imho

For intels- i second this- for a cheap and nice rig.
These new intel babies Overclock a lot too iirc.
So a better motherboard will take care of that but add to expenses as the cheapest decent OCer mobo is the XFX 650i at 5.5k odd.
a cheap gfx card like the 6200LE/TC or 7100GS(almost akin to amd onboard gfx in performance) will another 2-2.5k more.:(

edit:
The AMD X2 3600+ can be easily run at 2.4Ghz with slight tweaks- maybe someone can help you with it in case u need help.
The Jetway mobo has decent enough gfx with DVI out onboard.
For dvi input in other mobos, you will need a dedicated gfx card like the 6200/LE/TC, 7100GS and higher models.

for a little more expensive setup that doesnt compromise on performance much when not overclocking will be the intel core2duo chips 4300/4400- 5-6k
and the XFX 650i mobo and a budget gfx card.:P

I want to upgrade my home PC. I want to just replace the mainboard & CPU. But I really don't know what to with existing mainboard (Kobian P4M266) & CPU (Pentium 4 1.5G). Any suggestion on how to dispose:
1. Working computer components.
2. Non-working computer components.

EDIT: I also have 17" CRT which I want to replace with 17" LCD. Again no idea what to do with CRT monitor.
