While image quality has gone up over the years the iPhone 8 plus blows every new entry level phones out of the water when it comes to video quality.. Most entry level to upper midrange chipsets don't support 4k video recording and the stabilization isn't good in most.

84% still on an original battery that’s impressive! Mines 87% already on a 2+ year old replaced battery.
But I am a heavy user of this phone with no other backups.Battery is one area where I find it lacking, was not finding any other reason to upgrade.

When it hits 80% i might try replacing again if the cost isn’t prohibitive.

Costs around Rs. 2,000 for battery replacement at home by Cashify

However, the replacement battery was an unknown brand, but comes with 6 month warranty.

Re: Comparison: 6-year old flagship smartphone Vs latest entry-level smartphone

Bought a Realme X2 pro 12/256 at launch, ie. Jan 2020. Although I recently bought another phone, the only problem with realme is, I had to replace the screen which took a nasty fall last year. The original screen still goes for 19k + works. Replaced with a generic screen. The phone, a flagship from the brand, is still working as it should. No lag, no hanging. Battery is good but lasts drastically low nowadays but thats because of some watsapp groups I am added to. Even on silent mode, it drains fast courtesy 5-7k messages I recieve daily.
The metal frame really helps preserving performance in long terms as the robust build protects the components from a lot of abuse.
My son got a hand me down Realme 3 that wasn't a flagship in its time and after repairing its mic, has been performing flawlessly since past 2 years. Use case being online classes, gaming and entertainment, the only downside is, it takes ages to get fully charged on a generic charger via D port.
This makes me think, for most use cases ( music, youtube, watsapp, internet and calls only. Minimum or no gaming) our processors are already an overkill. Afterall, these uses dont require ultrafast processors and extremely high memory. Their performance deteriorates over time because of repeat storage-deletion cycles, newer software requirements, weakening battery and cumulative physical damage due to falls etc.
Most users are already using the phone for above only and not too much tech-savvy. They don't have any complaints with a mid or entry level phone for long time. Even most of the tech savvy won't be able to tell a 60hz screen from a 90hz in a side by side comparison and hence lower specs are enough.
The most useful feature for me, I feel is quick charging. I dont mind connecting a charger to x2 pro for 5-7 minutes twice or thrice a day. Upgrading your phone for this reason maybe worth if, like me, you spend half a day or more reading books on phone.
