P.S. Just checked & both phones don't have a battery manufactured by Matsu****a! Saved!!

If they are defective, nokia asks for your details and I think they will ship you a replacement free of charge.

Tech2.com India > Nokia's Exploding Battery - The Real Scoop > Features > Mobile > Mobile Phones

The big hype today is that your Nokia mobile battery is going to go kablooey! That’s a load of C**p. Don’t worry people your Nokia phone battery no. BL-5C is NOT, I repeat, NOT going to explode. Here’s the real scoop on what’s going down inside your battery compartment.

The Scoop
Picture a slightly large balloon inside a tiny paper bag being blown up. In reality what’s going to happen is the balloon will continue to get filled and finally tear through the bag. The balloon will not explode, it simply increase in size.

Here’s the low down. Every time your phone is charging the current is causing your battery to heat up and therefore expand a wee bit. Since you already know that the battery compartment fits the battery perfectly and there’s really no room for expansion so it simply pops out of its casing. AND THAT’S IT! This is how it is according Nokia.

READ THE STORY IN THE LINK PROVIDED...

I saw this news in TV channel TV9 kannada, BL-5C battery manufactured between dec. 2005 and nov. 2006 have issues they say. Handset used by my wify manufactured in Nov. 2005 thats very funny. Now I am checking If I need to replace my battery, My handset is 2004 manufactured 6230 model which uses same battery but its old one so no issues.

We need to avoid using cellphones while chraging. Thats first care to avoid this possible explossion.

Regards,

Ravi.

Damn even my battery is a BL-5C but guys dont panic as Iraghava has rightly stated if its manufactured in Japan specifically by Matsu****a then there is a problem . My battery was manufactured in China and hence no threat. Guys please use this link below and get a response from Nokia Product Advisory panel itself.

Thanks for bringing an important thing to our notice!

For me, it said -
Your battery is not among those manufactured by Matsu****a between December 2005 and November 2006 and your battery will not be replaced. (it was not easy to type those 26 characters of battery serial number though)

But what I felt is that, media is blowing the matter up too much.

Yes its media blowing the matter too much, may be someone against Nokia making this news as big!

In India according to me Nokia handsets are China made hence battery as well. So India is unaffected I feel. In my circle most of the people own Nokia no one has reported its Japan made Matsu****a. Every Nokia handset sold is China made here according to folks I discussed.

Regards,

Ravi.

Nope not really. We have here phones made in India and finland as well as the china ones.

I sent the mail to everyone in office and 5-6 people have the defect bateries.

Would suggest you check the link in the first post and enter the serial number of the battery and see if it's the defective one.

No I think your assumptions are not correct. I have 2 colleagues whose battery turned out to be faulty after checking which will be replaced by Nokia.
Nokia will send a replacement battery through courier at the address you mention at their site alongwith a empty envelope/pouch. after you get the the battery just put the defective one in the pouch and hand it over to t he courier guy. thats all. no running here and there and arguing with nokia care guys for a timely replacement.
