Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

Using Chrome since very long time and it's my first preference on Windows and Firefox is the alternative. Safari on Mac/iPhone.

It would have been wonderful if a poll was conducted on this thread

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

Am using Microsoft Edge in my Asus Laptop, iPad, iPhone and another Android phone. Syncs beautifully across and has been quite fast in terms of performance. Happy with Edge. Based on Chromium it has all its pros too.

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

We're an Apple family through and through. So Safari for both mobile and laptop/desktop. It just saves the hassle of exporting my decades old bookmarks and favourites. That, and handoff sync working seamlessly means I was seeing this page on my phone and then came onto the desktop to type it out with ease so the tab was open in my Safari here too.
And the convert to PDF/reader view to save articles is worth its weight in gold.

I do have Firefox as a backup for the times our GOI websites refuse to cooperate with other browsers

Never warmed up to Crome. Tried it for a year or so when I had an Android phone but just didn't gel with me. That was also the time when I used Opera but it was too bulky and slow, at least for those basic Android phones back then.

And another 'browser' I use often is *Cough*Tor*Cough* !

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

My preferred browser:

iOS & Android - Firefox Focus

Reason : Very sleek, no hogging of resources, auto clear of cookies & history

Experimented with other browsers (for iOS and Android) like DuckDuckGo, Safari, Opera, Chrome and Firefox but found them to cause me absolute frustration!

For Windows (office laptop) i have no option but to use either resource hungry Chrome or pain causing Edge.

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

I believe in the horses for courses principle.

Chrome on computers.

Safari on the iPad.

DuckDuckGo on the mobile.

Was earlier using Brave, but it started acting morose and I let it go. Both DuckDuckGo and Brave help/ed me in having an ad free browsing experience - which is particularly important for textual reading.

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

I started using internet from 1999. My pc was an assembled one, cost 60k and ran on Pentium PIII 450 Mhz processor, tiny 512 kb Ram, 4 GB hard disk and Windows 95. I had an internet connection from a Chennai company called KMR Online, accessed through a 56 kbps dial up connetion. The internet time had to be purchased on CDs periodically when we ran out of access. My preferred browser was Netscape.

I moved to Bangalore from 2000 to 2005 and while there I think I bought internet packs from Wipro. I think it was called Netcracker and came bundled with an email called Cracker mail! And upgraded the Os to Windows 97.

After my return to Chennai I had to scrap that pc and assemble a new one in 2010, which ran for eleven years and gave up the ghost in 2022. My current desktop runs on Intel Core i3 - 10100F, 3.6 GHz processor, 8 GB Ram, 450 GB ssd and 64 bit Windows 11. This too is assembled and I paid 30k for it in 2022!

I was using Firefox for a long time, but from 2017 or so my preferred browser is Chrome, both for the Pc and my mobile.

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

Safari is my preferred choice. It is fast, and offers high level of privacy and security. However, some sites, especially those related to government services do not work too well in Safari. In such cases, Chrome is my second choice, but I sometimes see that this results in increased CPU usage.

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

Bought my first computer in 1996 running Windows 95. Started with IE and then switched to Netscape Navigator. Then started using Opera browser especially for the tabbed browsing. Then switched to Chrome in 2009. Firefox also was used sometime. Eventually now Chrome is my choice of browser in Laptop, PC and Android. I also use Epic privacy browser to filter ads and block tracking.

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

Laptop- Brave browser, occasionally Chrome, Edge and recently Vivaldi. Have noticed that Vivaldi uses less memory than Brave.
Mobile (Android)- Brave browser.

Re: Your preferred browser on desktop & mobile

Firefox on Laptop / Desktop. Sometimes Chrome.

Samsung Internet on mobile.

Would much appreciate it if anyone can point to a satisfactory mobile browser that can block images / videos and has dark mode. Thanks.
