Fire Inside - Gemini from Asphalt 8 Airborne immediately comes to mind.

Re: Racing Game Original Sound Tracks

My favourites were from Need for Speed high stakes PC version and Most Wanted 2005. Other genres would be Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Prince of Persia series OSTs, especially the end credit songs.

Re: Racing Game Original Sound Tracks

Apart from the classics discussed here, I would like to add a couple more.

Test Drive Unlimited 2- All are absolute bangers

Dirt 2- The songs were ok but somehow, during racing, the tempo just suited the environment of rallying.

Delirium by Ladyhwake deserves a special mention

Thank you for the mention. It took me back to the '99 GoTY edition playing days. The game that made our mom install a lock to the computer room . The genre is rock/metal and if you like this, I am sure you'd love PoP Warrior Within OST as well.

Re: Racing Game Original Sound Tracks

Interesting thread, love the Asphalt 8 OSTs, but another worthy mention is the Forza Street OST. Those songs just take you to another dimension and the "Torches" song really gets me vibing. Any FS players here.
P.S. it was discontinued in 2022 by Microsoft. :(

Re: Racing Game Original Sound Tracks

Game OSTs form a significant part of my collection, more so because I like instrumentals more than (or perhaps as much as) songs with vocals.

Over 15 years ago I found a way to connect my PS1 to my PC in order to record the menu tracks of its games... Fun times, haha. Gran Turismo has a very Japanese quirk in that they compose and record their menu music themselves (at least in the old days).

My favourites are:
- Gran Turismo 1 and 2 menu music
- Bully OST - such good music there
- The opening track to NASCAR Rumble (PS1) - there is no name to it except that it was composed by the Derek Trucks Band. I have the MP3 track I recorded from my PS1
- Rom Di Prisco favourites from the older NFSes (Hot Pursuit)
- Menu music from NFS Porsche Unleashed (I copied files over from the PS1 CD, they were available in a .DA format)
- "Short Change" by E-Z Roller (GTA 2 menu music) - sounds so cool!
- GTA Vice City ending music
- "Cars" by Fear Factory (Test Drive 6 opening song)
And so much more...

A lot of my music has survived because I had a dedicated music player since I was little (still use a Cowon Plenue D for music). These devices are very reliable due to their simplicity and last 6+ years on average (I had to buy the Plenue D only because my previous Cowon, an S9, was stolen on a bus to Bangalore).

If anyone is into video game music, I highly recommend you visit https://downloads.khinsider.com. It's a website dedicated to video game music. They have an insane collection all available for download for free.

Re: Racing Game Original Sound Tracks

Hola,

As a late 90s, early 2000s kid, here are my top racing game playlists -

> Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (2002)

Some of the best rock and acid rock ever plonked onto a racing game. Unfortunately, several of the songs were chopped up and made appropriate for child use, but phenomenal playlist, nonetheless.

> Need For Speed Most Wanted Black Edition (2005)
Fabulous playlist, but here's where I noticed more rap starting to leak in, and I'm not a rap fan. However, Guardians of Asgard, Skinnyman, Hand of Blood, Decadence, Blood and Thunder, Broken Sword etc were fantastic additions.

> Larry Ragland's 4×4 Challenge
Awesome menu theme.

> Cross Racing Championship (2005)
Strange, Hungarian doom metal band called SZEG did the soundtrack, which was awesome enough. However, the main theme was legendary. Still listen to it when I drive in real life.

> Need For Speed Carbon Collector's Edition (2006)
The playlist wasn't that great, but the in-game music composed by EA was phenomenal. It adapted to the racing actively, picking up the pace when you reached the 90% mark of a race. Was genuinely great.

I can't say much for newer games, but I'm an old school metal sort of guy - rap and electronic/trance/pop never fit with racing for me.

Anyone know of other racing games with more rock/metal soundtracks?

Cheers.
