Red has been making waves in the movie camera business for some time now ( I heard about them about a year ago but the news I got was there were few professionals that knew how to use the system) and every quarter they seem to get better. I dont know how they compare to it's competitors but few DOPs in India use RED. The results (Lord of the Rings etc. ) are there for all to see and I am sure RED breaks new ground but cameramen and DOPs take time to adjust.

I dont think Canon and Nikon have much to fear for the medium term. RED would be hardpressed to compete against theri sales and service network.

YouTube - Hitler rants about D3x

Amazing video! Totally hilarious

I think a part of the reason of the low penetration has been low availability. The camera was on pre-order with a long waiting list and the first camera available in India came quite late.

@redrage: Cool video

All I can say is Hitler has a point.

"I hear he only shoots Jpeg":uncontrol
"And the 80-400 needs a makeover worse than Rosie O'Donnell!!" rl:

That's a brilliant video, I am just floored.:D

Hilarious video!
Hitler makes some very valid points though...

im planning to go for the lumix 520 . which has the best of all features ..10.1 MP ,wide angle ,,and best of all a touchscreen..
any comments ?

In the current week or the coming week i intend to buy a digi cam. I am a complete newbie into the world of photography. Currently i intend to learn the basics. There are so many cameras available that i am completeley confused. Everyone claims that they have the best camera. So which is the best camera that i can buy within a budget of 10k. I have heard about the Cannon Powershot S3. Any idea how is it and how much does it cost? Any other options?

S3 is a great Camera chocoguy4u. Its very capable and I have personally used it for a long time. But you wont get a new piece anywhere as it was discountinued over an year back. Even the S5 IS has been discontinued and SX10 launched. But than it costs 27K with bill.

At 10K budget, I would suggest you a Canon 590 IS or 720 IS

You can get cheaper Sony cameras as well but I personally dont like them because of limitations as compared to a Canon

Time for 2 get myself a P&S digicam for those quickies.I have been looking at the Nikon P80 and found it to be pretty good. But then that's a tad bit big and doesn't serve my purpose.
I need a cam with re-chargeable batteries and something hassle free.Added masala would be a good ISO range.Any suggestions ? BTW the budget is around 10k.

Even the A720 is discontinued I believe.

Riju

If you Can increase your budget.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 (28-100mm)
Canon Powershot SD880 IS (28mm - 112mm)

If you don't want to exceed your budget then there is Canon Powershot SX110 IS. Macro as close as 0.39-inches plenty of manual control with Aperture/Shutter speed priority, and full Manual modes.

I suggest you visit the Canon Lounge and try it out.

The Vivitar flash went kaput after 160 odd flash recycles. Vivitar flash pics are miles ahead compared to the in cam flash pics, I plan get a 430EX and a wide angle converter instead of getting a panny.
I have 2 questions.
-I'd rather like to have a feature at hand, though I'd probably not use it every time, so I have an option of using it if i need to. Is getting a 580ex worth for spending that little bit extra?
-Canon makes a .75X wide angle converter, but isnt possible to buy it. Some sellers exist on ebay, eg Would it be okay to get one of these? And would any 58mm thread converter work?
Any suggestions

( completely contradictory, but would the canon flash be compatible with a D40? )
