I have a 4 month old SX120IS. Eats lot of battery and picture quality is just fine. And pictures lack depth. May be it's the settings that's not giving me good quality pictures. Anyways, I'm not very happy with the cam.
Would suggest SX100IS.
Thanks,
Jose. |
Thanks Jose! So i need to look out for something else.
Guys, let me know anything between $200 and $300, and takes decent photos. I need higher zoom and around 10 MegaPix, would suffice.

stretch a little and you may get panasonic FZ35. It was my second choice after the Fuji HS10 that costed 500.

Excellent suggestion and I second that. The Panasonic FZ35/38 is a great bridge/superzoom camera that is recommended by a lot of people here and everywhere, on the web.
It's not that it doesn't have any flaws, but very little of them, you can read them in the reviews. Very good image quality, decent video recording and great overall cam.. Only it costs over your budget of $300 [but you won't regret the decision; but read all reviews you can, to understand it yourself too].
Good luck!

Sorry for the delayed response but was busy with work and writing my TL on my recent visit to Vaishno Devi. Here are a few pics taken in the night time with my coolpix. |
You see a lot of blur in the photos, don't you. Was the camera's VR turned ON when you shot this ?
You also need a steadier pair of hands :p
Fuji official introductory price with bill and warranty is 29999, who is this joker selling for 32K+?

VR = Vibration Reduction (used by Nikon)
IS = Image Stabilization (used by Canon)
They mean the same thing.

buying from US will attract duty. I was also looking at buying sx 20is from US when a fellow Bhpian made me aware of the duty thing. Plz check before buying. At the end of the day it will cost you as much as the indian price.

will it attract duty even if someone hand carries it with them? cuz if such a price difference exists i dont mind waiting a few weeks to find out if someone is coming and get it with them.

Well as someone old me, if the person opens the box and carefully spreads the content of the box in his luggage, then he might be able to get it passed customs.
Cars and Cams go hand in hand atleast on adventure trips. Learnt my photo skills lately an when fallen in love with my new Olympus SP 800 UZ.
Smart semi SLR for a steal in U.S. launched in INDIA but cant swipe a deal.

Not really, unless you're getting it shipped from sites like Amazon.com, directly to India. If you are aware of someone travelling back to India from US, you could request favour of carrying it over for you [preferably someone who isn't travelling for the 1st/2nd time, as they're expected to bring back a lot for themselves. Overloading will also attract some type of duty, with customs at the Airport].
The FF HS10 costs $499.99 which when converted is about Rs.22350/-. In B'lore, the HS10 is available for 26500/- with B&W and some package [free card, battery charger types]. That's a saving of about 4K+ when bought from the US. But only by someone bringing it over for you and not by direct shipping from US. :)
