The local 'Costco' or 'BestBuy' nearest to your location in the US. I find them better than buying online.
Online 'Cameta Camera' out of NY. Be aware of sellers with addresses in the NJ area, most will not respond after the sale is made.

Guys, what would be the best place to order in US/delivery in US?

Thanks, Ace. |
Gents,
I require your assistance to decide which camera to get for my father in law.
My in-laws will be going to Bangkok for a week. Currently, they have an ancient point and shoot from Canon.
I'm thinking along the lines of something like the Canon EOS M or the Sony DSC RX 100 II.
The budget is around 30k. Can be stretched a bit. The idea is to get something small, portable with great image clarity. No DSLRs. Can't expect dad to lug a huge big lens around on vacation.
What would the experts here recommend? Suggestions please. Thanks in advance! Cheers!

Based on the requirement I would pick RX 100 II for being compact. EOS M would be comparatively larger due to the changeable kit lens.
Haven't posted in this thread for a long time so thought I should pop in here and say a good word about the Nikon Coolpix S6500. Bought it off Amazon last October for just under 9K and it included a 4GB Card, Camera Pouch, HDMI Cable (as advertised) but surprise surprise a Polo man's watch as well! Not a bad deal at all :)
So anyway this is a 16MPixel, 12x zoom point and shoot camera advertised by Priyanka Chopra (if that sort of thing appeals to you!) I used it for Diwali, my birthday, New Year's and then it sat in cold storage till a couple of months ago when I took it to the Fiesta review. Though we didn't use any of the pics from that camera, I was glad to see that it stood up for itself rather well in bright sunlight against Viddy's pics on the mirrorless NEX5.
Nothing much to write home about in terms of performance and the scene selections etc are pretty standard for a PnS but one nice feature is the Wi-Fi compatibility. This does NOT mean that you can beam the pics directly to social media (a la say the Samsung Galaxy camera) but it means you can transmit the pics from the camera to a smartphone or computer by Wi-Fi. Remember to completely disable (forget) your native Wi-Fi before doing this otherwise it doesn't work well. You'll need to download a free app called Nikon WMU which is available on both Google playstore for Android and on Apple store for iOs. It's fun to beam the pics to your phone and then share them with friends and family on-the-go rather than have to wait till you find a quiet moment with your laptop and SD card etc. For this feature alone I like it and frankly it takes good enough family photos which is my primary use.
I have been using a Canon SX 120IS for the past 4 years. Extremely satisfied with everything save for battery. It has AA battery & not lithium and it is a pain to charge it everytime or keep buying duracells. I am getting a good price for it. Need less to say, looking forward for another Canon Powershot series.
How is the Canon SX510HS and the SX170IS.
My skills are limited and I found the SX120IS a very good camera.
Let me know as to what you guys think :)

If you are using the cheap rechargeable batteries that came as freebies with the camera purchase, they must be nearing end of life by now.
If battery is the only problem, I would suggest you to buy a new set of good quality rechargeable batteries.
AA battery may sound old fashioned in today's age of Li batteries, but it offers great convenience.
IMHO, it doesn't make sense to upgrade the camera for this reason alone.
Rohan
Those batteries were lost. Have got two pairs of Sony AA. But they don't last as well as Li batteries.

As of now pre-order price is $549. Not sure how much it will be in India.

The INR conversion come to Rs. 33,xxx I think I will have to skip this. As the price in India should be almost on par (being a new product) if not higher.
Thanks.
We will be visiting Andaman & Nicobar next June with some friends and their family member and will have atleast 6-7 kids.
Since I wanted this to be one of the most memorable trip which is for about 6 days; I wanted to find out the best camera that can be bought for underwater photography / video shoots.
I am hoping to find one which can be used both on land as well as water.
Do let me know few of the best options, that you may have come across or used. Also any store which sells such cameras in Mumbai at best price.
Cheers
