iPod Nano queries

Just received my new Apple ipod nano 4 gb. I just love its looks.
Now, the problem is, as the manual suggests that itunes software is needed to transfer music to the ipod from computer. I tries to download the software from two different places, but the installation process stopped in the middle.
Guys, pleaaase help me out, is there any other way to download songs from computer to ipod?

You need to download & use iTunes to transfer songs from your PC to iPod, there is no other way!

Download of iTunes latest version needs bit faster internet access like Broadband etc, dial-up will take ages & will get aborted in between.

iTunes is whopping 70MB to download. You should be downloading with a software with pause/resume support.

If you're using Linux, Try Rhythmbox from Rhythmbox - The music management application for GNOME or Banshee from Main Page - Banshee ... earlier there was a problem of hash mismatch of the db but I think they have caught up.

Its a big download - even on my 8mbps Internet connection it seems that the download is not moving. Give it time. Also make sure you download it with Quicktime. Iturnes needs quicktime to work.

Although there are other (small) 3rd party softwares available that would enable you to transfer songs to your ipod. But it is recommended to use itunes.

You can also use websites other than apple to see if you get beter download speeds, try this one : iTunes - Download or Download iTunes 7.6.2.9 - FileHippo.com

There are other softwares to download and use the ipod. I'm stuck with Win2K which the new itunes doesnt support (hence cant use new ipods). So I'm using yamipod and floola software for this purpose. Both are small, so I just keep it in the ipod. Can run it anywhere and transfer music. No need to install

Then there is something seriously wrong with your 8mbps connection. It got downloaded in around 4 min for me, in a normal 2mbps connection.

The iPod plays audio files from quicktime (m4a), apple (aac), mp3 and more.

There are many programs to convert wma files to mp3. One of them is "Switch" - go to download.com and look for wma-mp3 convertors. You will find freeware and shareware that do this.

Thanked: Once

even itunes can convert WMA to MP3. Just add them to the library and it asks whether to convert them.
