The iPhone Thread
(

It was a mixed reaction for me, they just stretched the phone, I wonder how that would look from an aspect ratio perspective but being Apple I am sure they must have thought about that.
Overall, as someone said its an evolutionary design, just as the S3 is over the S2.
Will I buy it? probably not, I am looking forward to upgrade to S3 or HTC one X once I am eligible end of this year.
With all my experience with touch smart phones, I now prefer them to be wider(originally i preferred slim) albeit not as wide as the Note :)

Yes but only because now it would be available probably with lower disk/memory space
The 4S really is a great piece of equipment I am really a fan of its camera.
Btw you should look at craigslist, lot of people would be selling their 4S to buy the 5 :)
Not a big upgrade but as is the trend, folks will queue up to buy this one. The biggest cheese this time is the new lightning connector. This forces everyone that had any idevice accessory earlier to buy an adapter for the new iphone.
Imagine the automobile industry which for 5 years has been having USB and ipod ready will not have to have 2 versions compatible. They messed up an entire eco system.
They could have just gone with the universal micro USB format rather than reinvent the wheel.
Customer wanted larger screen. 0.5" increase in screen size is hardly an upgrade. The old Galaxy S2 had a larger screen. Earlier all apps in istore were compatible with all iphone variants, now all apps will need to be changed to fit this iphone or the older apps will have letterbox on top and bottom. So most of the apps till updated will not make much use of the larger screen.

I agree, I was expecting a bit more - something like how it changed from 3Gs to 4. Infact 4 to 4s was not a big change, and now the same trend continues. iPhone has become a bit like Toyota Corolla. New generations have nothing much to differentiate from the old.

Indeed they have. 16GB 4S is now for 549 USD. Till yesterday, it was 649 USD. So, if you bought your iphone 4S in the last couple of weeks, you can get your 100 USD back if you show your original receipt.
After Steve Job's demise, most of the Apple innovations seem to be coming from Apple lawyers, trying to find new reasons to sue competitors.
Post Jobs, there is nobody in the entire industry with his Chutzpah.
Asia launch is on 21st Sep. First wave of countries include Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.
Some points I noted:
- In Singapore, the price starts from SGD 948 (unlocked), which is quite there with the earlier pricing of 4S.
- The 4s pricing here now starts from SGD 788. Huge drop indeed.
- The range starts from 4 (starting price SGD 588), and 3Gs is no longer shown in the Apple Online store.
- The lightening-to-30-pin adapter cost SGD 42 (direct conversion around Rs.1800). Pretty steep for an adapter!
This is the lightening-to-30-pin adapter:

What I find disturbing and not surprising is lack of support for lte in India. Guess we'll know in december.
With 3 models already announced I wonder how many more they can come up with. Till then 4S is 'the world phone'.
This was probably the most anticipated gadget of the year, with so many speculations as to whether it will be transparent, or will it be competing with the S3 and what not. Frankly it was a huge let down. I so agree with samurai, post Steve jobs the giant seems to have lost a sense of direction and is wandering aimlessly. Very Disappointing.
2007: Nobody will buy a phone without a physical keypad.
2008: They changed the shape! It doesn't fit in the old dock!
2009: They didn't change anything! It looks the same!
2010: Not innovative enough!
2011: Not different enough!
2012: Not big enough!
Meanwhile 3 days ago, Apple topped the Smartphone Customer Satisfaction Survey for the 8th year running.
Just saying.
am confused now. Which model is suitable for India? Model A1428 or A1429? (

And like 4S this one is also NOT a world phone in the true sense.
BTW, looks like only the 16GB version of 4S is available now.

:) Why on the Iphone thread?
We're all users here.
And they have pulled the socket type prank again? last one was with iOS upgrade, this time physically.
So EVERYTHING i RE-bought for my wife's IP4, needs to be upgraded, when I WILL have to get her the IP5?
Or have they also done the same thing, that older accessories will not be supported? So you have to get new cables/chargers etc ground up?
I have a iPhone 4 and this seems to be a logical upgrade for me, very happy with the iPhone build quality and software stability which the other eco systems have so far failed to convince me with.
Waiting for the nano Sim work around and someone to get the phone down :)
The I5 is a big disappointment for sure. All the hype , all the secrets and you end up with a phone just marginally bigger and thinner than the old one. The competition has really up the ante in terms of design and software. The new Windows 8 phone nokia nine20 looks very promising. Having said all this , I will still see hordes of people wanting to exchange their 4 and 4s for the 5. Well thats the kind of brand royalty Apple has and the competition wished they had.
