Team-BHP - Where to find India's Maps for Garmin GPS

Will get a garmin Nuvi 200w in a days time. Would someone tell me how the garmin maps are for south india. Was considering getting map my india maps (SD card). I guess this is the best maps available in India at the moment and will go with Garmin Nuvi 200w. The cost on their site says 7000K. Is it worth it. Please put your inputs in quickly before i order the map.:)

Instruction:

Step 1: Download the zipped file.

Step 2: Extract the files to a folder.

Step 3: open the folder and copy the contents (gmapsupp.img) to a memory card where the map is stored in nuvi device.
(It will ask for overwrite the file Click Yes)

I gave my Garmin GPS unit 276c to Sumit Katyal of Asim India last November. Its been over 10 months but I am yet to hear anything about loading the Delhi City Maps.

If this software for all Indian cities works, then I would better install this on my mapsource and upload it onto my 276c unit provided I am returned that unit by M/s. Asim trading.

I have been using mapmyindia navigator (delphi 200) from past 2 years and i feel they have loads of POI and places covered.

you can try with them.

Do you use them? How's your experience with this.
I'm in the US and will be returning soon. I have a Garmin here and planning to bring it to India so that I can use it with indian maps.

Do you use them to drive giving the destination address? Does it works as good as in the US?
Eg., I just give the destination address / Zip code here and it will show me turn by turn direction, etc., till I arrive at the destination.

Will be getting my 205W next week. Plan to buy Satguide for 2K and use. Based on reviews and threads in this forum, it looks to me to be the best combo (price and utility).

Spoke to the Satguide guy in Hyderabad. He mentioned, if you do not buy hardware from them, and if you want only the maps, you need to order it online. They will ship an SD card with Map and its key. I think they do this to avoid hacking of the key by the local dealers. Only maps for sale is not available with their dealers.

Have a GPS enabled Nokia N91 8GB but no in-built GPS. Contacted MapMyIndia.com to inquire about the compatibility and stuff. Got a quick reply today that I can use a Bluetooth receiver and their map software on my phone as a complete solution.

Cost is around : 5-6K including both the instrument and the map.

Was wondering if this is a better solution that going for a loaded GPS instrument, which costs at least 12K.

Any ideas guys?

Im plannin to buy MapMy india's new device for 10k with the maps,
The 2nd option is that i can import a device from the U.S. For 5K & then buy or download indian maps here.
Please Advise, Which shall be the perfect convenient choice, since i travel all alone, & need reliable gps.....

Major issue with this cell phone is smaller screen lack of touchscreen. I used Nokia N82 (it has GPS) for navigation and later switched to a Chinese device.

Since your phone does not have GPS, and adding GPS + Navigation would cost 6k, I would advice against it.

Would be better to ask someone to bring a device from US and buy India maps. Total cost would be 8k.

Cell phone based GPS is helpful only for trekking kind of a requirement. In fact there also one may want to buy a more rugged device. But still cell phone based GPS is functional and helpfull. Both MMI and Satguide provide maps for cell phones with GPS.

Apart from that, for Garmin maps, you will need a UNL file with the correct key. And this key is unique to the maps.
