Also consider the HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch Pro - Full phone specifications
Very similar specs to the SE X1.

in the us it cost 760 for 8gb version and 860 for 16gb version. i m thinking it would drop to around 550 -600$. because the price dropped like 500$ in last two weeks

Well looks like youre in the same dilema as me. can we add touch diamond to this list as I do not want to create a new topic for the same. As of now, I have seen the diamond and am completly blown away by the screen. Omnia is still a bit expensive as its not officially launched in India and grey market is asking for around 45k for this. dont know about the xperia though. seems like SE are dragging their feet on this. There is still no news of it after the feb announcement.

i tried the touch diamond i thin when i saw the prices it cost almost 650$ for an unlocked version. and when i went to the store to try i did not like it that much it looks a bit sluggish especially the cover flow so i ruled it out. but i liked the design.

about the xperia it looks awesome and i m willing to still wait for it because so many gadgets blogs and reviewers say that it s worth the wait

Yes, its been out for about a week. I have a Diamond, Omnia and a TyTN II. The Omnia is the worst phone out the lot and one to avoid.

Samsung Innov8 is the best, its got 8MP camera.
Blackberry Bold is also a nice phone.
Out of Omania or Xperia, I would choose SE.

I am also in the same dilemma between HTC Touch Pro and Xperia X1. I checked with SE support and they informed that X1 would be out by 1st week of Nov and the indicati ve pricing would 37K..

Initially(couple of months back) I was inclined towards X1 and now am getting more and more inclined towards HTC Touch pro after reading reviews bout Xperia (sluggish panels are putting me off).

But, there is a general comment that HTC Touch Pro (in general most of the HTC devices) has weak signal issues and that it doesnt pick up signal as good as other brands like Nokia and SE. Can someone throw some light which will help in the decision. This will really help me coz I actually live a low signal area in Chennai and my current Nokia 7710 picks up only 1 or 2 bars and most of the time the phone goes blank in signal.

Based on my analysis..

Pros X1:

Great screen (WVGA)
VGA recording and playback at 30 FPS
Around the world support for 3G

Cons X1:

Lack of accelerometer
No you tube support (out of box)
Not so good tactile feedback from the keyboard
Sluggish panels

Pros HTC TP:

Great Keyboard
Good screen (VGA)
Accelerometer
Lot of "out of box" apps (like Remote desktop, MP3 trimmer)

Cons HTC TP:

Weak signal issues (??????)
No 3G support (if you are travelling to US from India)
No VGA recording (i am not sure about video playback at VGA res. ?????)

Even after this analysis, I am perplexed to get any one of the devices. They have their own USPs.....May be I should get both ah....

So its better because it has an 8MP camera ? Cameras mean very little to most of us. Look at the Samsung G600 which had a 5MP camera, my 4 year old K750i with just a 2MP camera took clearer pictures.

The HTC HD is out soon as well. Do not worry about the so called weak signal issues, just flash a new radio rom and find one that works best for you. There are many roms you can try with HTC.

i agree to this, i've a touch diamond (indian version 2G), but I flashed the latest radio which made it quad band (instead of Tri-band) and usable in US. Of course the 3G wont work as its hardware limitation. Also the speed depends on the Rom you choose to put on your phone, the official ROMs are generally much slower than the optimized ones.

I am running a stripped down (lite) rom and it has speeded up the Manilla interface.

One thing that has put me off the Omnia is the poor inbuilt GPS functionality. With my current ROM the diamon can lock on to a position in less than 30 seconds (that is inside the house). With the Omnia you wait minutes.
