I guess this link will make it clear. Rakhi Wala - The House Of Electronics...

I think the symbol makes it go "O" General.

I had come across this link when i was doing some R&D on ACs sometime back.

Also O Generals are very well known only in the South. I had never heard of this brand until i came to Bangalore.

I agree O has been added in India. But the question is why is the company letting the wholesalers and distributors corrupt the brand name?

Hitachi compressor is good, but may lack in other extras.,which lg, samsung offer

Priyank there are 2 levels of Aircons that I can suggest.

Rung one is Daikin and Hitachi. 1.5 tons will cost you about 35 to 38K both these machines are trouble-free and extremely silent with low consumption.

Rung two is occupied by everyone else. Of these I found best service and products with Samsung. I have recently purchased a 2ton, 1ton and 0.75 ton machine (all were Samsung) for my home and am very happy with the performance and result. It is my estimate that a Samsung will cost about 25-28 grand for a 1.5 ton.

I would suggest either that you buy a Samsung, or go straight for a Daikin.

Thanks Sam! I shall check Daikin and Samsung tomorrow.

I had almost finalized Carrier. My office had Carrier and it was cool and no noise at all. Thats why thought of going ahead with Carrier.

What other features / extras ?

I have bought a lot of split ACs and cassette ACs since 5 years, so I have dabbled with a few brands. My experience with Voltas has been phenomenal, I still have 3-4 units which are 5 years old, which have moved twice and still going good. Couple of them run 24x7x365 non-stop.

In addition, I get lot of comparison info from my AC contractor whom I am using since 5 years.

Hitachi AC is good, but has bad service network.

The cassette version is of very high quality. But the split version not good. How do I know, I have the carrier cassette in my office room and carrier split in my bedroom. The former is very silent and efficient, the latter howls like a hurricane wind. In fact I am about to replace the carrier split with a Voltas split. My AC contractor concurs with my findings.

Besides, a carrier AC after 3-4 years goes bad, like it did for me. But Voltas keeps performing, like it has in my office.

True..

Actually both Voltas and Blue Star are rather underrated - but the professionals swear by them!!

The same reason why regular Marlboro is sold as Marlboro "Hard" in India. Some names just stick and you cannot change it.
If you ask for "General" aircons, I guess the contractor will just not understand.
When something sells well, you just accept the fact that it sells.

Right you are spitfire. Some people see that sign as an "O" I guess.

How is the service backup of Daikin in India?

Sigh thats what I said a few pages back.

Anyways we now have 3 Bluestar ACs in our family, My dad has a 1.5 Ton Split which is 2 years old & still very silent + a 1 ton window. I have 1.5 ton window which sounds the same as it did when new :p actually I feel it a bit loud as the location is right above the bed (rented place so no option) but no issues what so ever

Perhaps Bluestar is underrated and unknown because it was traditionally in the industrial and commercial segment.

True there are hardly any shops which stock them I too got the dealer's detail from the guy who had advised my dad for Bluestar.
They still concentrate more on Bulk sales than individual & hence have very few shops almost all of which are their own i.e. have only Bluestar solutions.

Our entire office has Daikin. Apart from this 2 very close people have 4 Daikin units each in their homes. I can offer you NO negative feedback.

@prince- many people who have used Godrej Ac's have termed them as the worst in cooling.

Actually we have a godrej AC at my parents home, a 1.5 T cooling a 10 X 15 ft room and its super cool. I think they come with GE compressor.

Anyways we bought it 7 years back and its still working fine.

Hey guys, i remember seeing a lot of Lloyd a/cs in most offices a long time back. I checked on Compare India and they are available. Any reviews on them?
