Hey, that's not good!
Never had a motor burning up! GE, National, Hitachi - over 10 years service, nor on LGs with 4 years on them!
not exactly burned up. getting overheated and motor cut off automatically by the sensor.

@KB- Onidas are quiet good. Check there cooling at anyones place who has it and you will be amazed. Its a pure VFM product with good performance. |
Absolutely agree to that. I have one for the last 5 years & it has kept going pretty well, even without the regular service.
Okay folks.. the deed is done! Just booked an ONIDA 'SLIM MIRROR' SM18SLM 1.5t split A/c . Getting it with a Premier Stabiliser and Inclusive of installation for 29k.
This is a five star rated model and has an EER of 11.06 ( 18254BTU/1650W) - The Hitachi with the same specs would have costed me 10k more, hence decided to go with this.
Thank you all for all your inputs!
Installation only tmw:Frustrati
Just insist on good quality installation and do not skimp too much on installation costs. Lots of cool air for you coming soon.

Congratulations!
What did the split itself cost ya'? What about installation?

This is the all inclusive rate I got.. Say the unit alone might have costed me 16k thereabouts..
This is our O-General A.C. with which I am totally dissatisfied.
Cooling level goes to 18 degree for lowest temp. Whereas LG takes it to 16, a complete bliss in the sweltering heat.

Excellent choice. Well i had selected same model for me last year after checking the EER and other stuffs of all brands. Onida is at par with Hitachi in this. Will be getting this model this year installed definitely.
Do update me of pros and cons after using for a few days:thumbs up
PS- I was getting it for 28k last year so thought should be cheaper now but seems got expensive! Might be area wise as well.
Also post a pic as well after installation.

Point is, does each of them cut off on that (lowest) setting or not?
Maybe the General is cutting off on the thermostat?
Also, where are you measuring the temp?

You paid the rest (12K) in installation costs & the stabiliser? Isn't that a lot?
Could you have gotten the unit without the Premium Stabiliser? What purpose does it serve?
@Anup, See LG, offers a lowest temp. setting of 16 degrees, whereas OGeneral doesn't come down from 18 degrees. A diff. of 2 degrees in height of summers is huge.
My A.C.'s are digital so carry temp., etc. meters/displays on both A.C. & remote. Its like climate control settings in car. Even my Corolla's A.C. has a minimum reading of 18 degrees, which in ultimate heat sometimes feels a tad low.

I agree the summer temps. in Punjab are more extreme, but setting AC to 16 degrees. I can feel comfortable at 27-28C in a O-General with 3 people in a 10*15 room.

Opppsss... TYPO!! :Frustrati
I meant the unit must have costed me
26k thereabouts. I do know the stabiliser costed me Rs. 1,750/-, and I am told the installation is generally in the region of 2k right?

'Premium' is the name of the stabiliser that is being supplied. All A?C s that I have seen being sold in south India are hooked to Stabilisers - fluctuations are supposedly bad for the compressor.

Please dont be fooled by the temp shown on the display. IT has absolutely nothing to do with cooling ability.
I had an LG - even with the a/c at 16 setting it used to barely cool the room. My neighbour's National at a setting of 21 used to make all of us shiver! The difference in grill temperature was dramatic. Despite complaints to LG they could not rectify it. I will never buy an LG again!
Please get your OGeneral's grill temperature checked, as well as the installation itself. Bad installation is the root cause of 90% of the problems!
@KB, obviously the temp. indicated on the LCD has to be taken for the truth, otherwise what's the use of the indicator!
I have a National A.C. too & that too is no great cooler.
Whereas I have around 4 L.G/Samsung A.C's which provide superior cooling than the rest.
Installation was done by authorised people only, so I don't think so that the fault lies there.
@Vasudeva, 27/28 degrees!! That's hot/summers for me!
