My in-laws a bought a Godrej 1 ton Split AC last week for 29k. Comes with 5yrs comprehensive warranty (have no idea what it covers). Lets see how it goes as the brand isn't really that well known in this category.

2024 May : Cooling is bad again. I call the LG service guys again, and this time they dismantle the IDU and give it a more thorough wash. Cooling is better but even then its only drawing in a max of 750 watts even at turbo mode. The max rated power consumption is 938 watts
2025 Feb : The AC is only drawing in 250-350 watts. LG guys are called again, they dismantle the IDU and pressure wash both the IDU and ODU. But even after the wash, its only working at <600 watts. I report the issue again and they are clueless and insists there is nothing wrong with the sensors. |

UPDATE
I had raised another complaint with LG and they have agreed to dismantle the IDU, and take it to their shop to give it another wash using an even more powerful machine. All these installing and uninstalling is making me a bit uneasy. Already some of the fins have been bent.
They are not charging me anything so why not? Fingers crossed. |

UPDATE
LG dismantled the AC again, and took both the IDU & ODU to their service centre. They said they will clean it more thoroughly using some chemicals and a washer which works at a higher pressure. They kept the AC for 2 days and reinstalled it on Saturday. The cooling is back to normal. Its working at almost 900 watts (in turbo mode) now. So yes, am happy with the results.
In the end I think that the LG AC is highly sensitive to dust clogging, this could be due to some inherent design issues.
I have ordered an 'Airth' external air filter on Amazon in the hope that it will reduce the dust getting into the AC. This is mounted on top of the AC. Yes, this might 'choke' the AC, reduce the airflow and cooling but I would rather have reduced cooling due to restricted airflow than clogged interiors which would mandate dismantling every year. |
First impressions of Airth air purifier.
The packaging is excellent and the product feels well built. The filter just needs to be seated on top of the IDU and that is pretty much it. Its designed to be smaller than the air intake area on top so that airflow is not hindered significantly.
As I have mentioned in my previous posts, dust clogging reduces airflow, and the AC powers down significantly. However I see absolutely no impact on performance due to Airth. But of course, the filter is brand new and clean; once the external filter starts accumulating dust, performance might take a hit. The brand advices vacuum cleaning the filter every 3 months and replacement every year.
I am planning to clean the inbuilt filter every 2 weeks and water wash the AC every 6 months.
NB : I do not have an AQI monitor and so have no idea if this is purifying the air.

Recently saw this product when the founders came on one of the Shark Tank India episodes.
Do let us know how efficient the product turns out to be; I am definitely interested in this one if this helps even to some minimum extent.
Any recommendations for a plug socket plus switch combo for a 1 Ton Inverter air conditioner (single phase)?
Asked around and I’m hearing people use terms like DP switch, Starter Motor switch, MCB Switch, Industrial switch, Isolator switch but still unable to find a specific product, also what should the current rating be? 16A/32A?

All you need is something like
this, with a normal switch beside it. Most likely a 16A version of it, based on the current draw of your 1ton AC. The new Inverter ones aren't too high.
Your electrical board must already have a MCB circuit breaker so no need for a second mcb ahead of one that already exists. You may need to replace or upgrade the current mcb on your switch board, if the rating is insufficient. Just check what is installed.

An Inverter 1T AC will consume 4.5A max.
A normal 10A/16A socket is sufficient. There was a time when AC required heavy duty switch as the starting current for 1.5T AC was 20A+. But Inverter AC have a "soft start", that is the current increases slowly till it reaches the operating current (takes 3 to 5 min). So there is no need for any heavy duty switch/socket, normal ones will do.
I have been exploring a split AC for use at my house. From this forum, Mitsubishi seems to be an overwhelming favourite, so naturally I started looking for Mitsubishi AC dealers in Bangalore.
I found a dealer who quoted 47K for a 1 ton 5-star Mitsubishi Electric. Would come up to 52k including installation. This works out to be about 10K more expensive than Daikin, and about 12-14K more expensive than Panasonic of similar capacity.
For a city link Bangalore, where we would typically see AC use for about 2-3 month a year, I wanted to understand if this premium is justifiable for my (limited) usage.
Mentally I was ready for a 5-6K premium, but this seems a bit too much. Also, since the AC is being imported from Thailand, I fear that spares cost would also be much higher in the long run.

Your requirements don't require such an expensive AC, I would vouch for Daikin, it is as reliable and is a premium AC brand in its own right. Getting an expensive imported AC is good but in case any issue arises part replacement can take time and will be costly. Better to go for brands with much better sales and reach.

If it were me, for such limited usage I wouldn't spend more than 30k for a 1 ton AC! I have bought 2 Voltas 1 ton ACs in the last 15 months & bought are working fine with everyday usage.

I have been using ME since 2016 and my requirements were exactly similar to yours. We use AC only from the month of March till May.
Till today (touch-wood), I have not faced a single issue with the AC. I just clean the filter before I start using it in the month of March. That is it, no other maintenance is required. Cooling is still the same as it was on day one.
I remember paying 40k including installation at that time.

I was enquiring for last few days for a 1 ton 3 star ac for my wife's home. Today, ordered Bluestar (Model 312TNU - TNU series with penta sensors) for 33k at Girias, retail chain of stores in TN. I wanted to enquire for few more days/stores and online, but my wife pushed for finishing the purchase quickly.
When I was confirming my order at the shop, also saw Bluestar has its own website to order online, but it had QKU series with hepta sensors for almost same price.
These sales people and managers simply push saying that only 1 in stock and many stores have less stock, and easily sets the sales trap for customers. :Frustrati

Its an AC. Not a Rolex hulk wristwatch!
Whenever a Sales agent talks to you like this, walk away. It will ensure they drop the price even further. Cause if it is indeed the last unit, they would ideally want to get rid of it, which puts the ball in your court. Not theirs.
Besides, even if you didn't land that AC. You've got a few dozen options to choose from.

The big question has to be
how much? What is the approx
scrap value of a copper-coil AC, say 1.5 ton?

The same way they doled out incentives to scrap old cars? Has anyone seen a dime of those incentives?rl:
