If you have more than one person travelling, your baggage allowance would help you bring it down as checked baggage. You're allowed to carry in stuff worth Rs.25,000/- which would cover the cost of the a/c.

National a/cs are manufactured at their plant in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. I think its a centralized manufacturing facility so any national a/c you buy should come from there, though there is talk about some new manufacturing facility in China now. I bought my first national down from Malaysia because I lived there, and power tariffs in Malaysia are similar to those in India - therefore people tend to go for a/cs that consume less power.
How does one calculate the per hour electricity consumption from the specs of an AC ?

seems Onida has only 1 tone split model.
Prices here in Kerala for 1.5ton/1ton
Godrej: 20900/17900
Kenstar: 21900
LG :23900/19700
Samsung: 22600/19700
can anyone comment of LG/Samsung models?
I purchased Hitachi 1.5T split ( the regular model not Atom) .
29.5K (paid to Hitachi) + 1.5K ( installation) + 2.5K ( Stabilizer) .
Pretty happy with the performance.
It is summer again and so revoking this thread.
I am planning to buy a window air conditioner in the next 1 week. Shall i go for LG or Samsung or is it worth spending another 7-8 K and go for Hitachi or O'General?
Which is the best of LG or Samsung?

Got Samsung a few weeks back. 13K for 1ton window. Am happy.
I too have a hitachi. I bought when i was in chennai. The salesman also pursued me in buying this (although i do like hitachi products). He told me that the extra price you pay on hitachi can be saved in electricity bills. He told that compressor will work with same efiiciency in the years to come when compared to Korean products. People who have bought hitachi has also told that they save on electricity. But how? I can't quantify the electricity consumption of two makes under same operating conditions. Has anyone verified these?
Rotary compressors save electricity, but all ACs these days have rotary comps. Why should hitachi be different ? i cant see the reason. if someone knows, please let me know.
here lemme give my two cents.
- Hitachi , General , Voltas,Blue Star ,DAIKIN,Carrier (in a hush voice so Rtech wont hear me ) are considered to be the best in the business neverthless they are more expensive than comparable models .
- General and Hitachi has one of the most efficient compressors.
- LG and Samsung ? .... I dont think so.It may be cheap but if thats what you are looking for you can even try Onida, Kenstar, Electrolux. If you are planning for .8 split make sure the room is no more than 100Sqft with minimal window area . I dont think there is .75 ton split,I think you are referring to window a/c(readily offthe shelf)
Daikin doesn't have any model for window mounting. Check the link:
Daikin Airconditioning India Pvt. Limited.
I have a feeling that Blue Star and Voltas don't have the latest technology. There is an Onida at my in-laws place. We were not happy with it. With stories of Carrier ACs catching fire, i can't take chances.
I will check out the rest.

 I dont think so .
Whats wrong with LG and samsung. Have owned numerous products from these two companies, and have always got great service and quality has been good too.
Sure hitachi consumes little less electricity, but it costs a lot more too.
