On a serious note:
- Totally agree, the water "created" by an AC unit is enough for watering indoor plants
- AFAIK several AC designs use the built-up water for cooling the coils by splashing it against the coil.
- In fact, the user manual of my LG clearly states that no one should attempt to drink it. :D

i thank every one in this forum,especially khoj,in helping me decide the a/c.
first i had blue star in my mind,then even had an idea of going for 2nd hand a/c.finally decided on panasonic,alas 2 ton was not available any where near my place
now i finally settled for
1) o general -2ton, from grey market- rs 38250 + 3600 for v guard stabilizer + 2500 for installation with copper tube
2) hitachi 1.5 ton window a/c quadricool( single motor)-rs27000 including stabilizer and installation.
i am yet to run my a/c as my house is under renovation,will take another couple of days.
team bhp helped me with my car,my t.v and now my a/c

Yup, the unit pipes out hot air and cold water...

If you can afford the General split ac units then go for it. If you want to spend a bit lesser then I would suggest the Hitachi units mentioned below.
The first one is an industrial version but the best value for money version in their split segment specifically the 1.2 tonne version.

The second one is the best window unit even when compared to the units on offer from the GENERAL.

More importantly you should find out if your compressor is made in Japan or India . If its made in china do not waste your money. Another thing to take with a pinch of salt is the star ratings.

Don't think twice, Get the Mitsubishi heavy industry ! How many tons is this and is it grey market price?

I need to buy 2 ACs for my house, one for each bedroom, each about 12 X 12 size.
I was contemplating on buying 2 splits until I came across the multi-splits and
it sounds interesting to my usage. Looks like besides the space, a multi-split can
also help in reducing electrical load - I am not sure if this also means lower
electricity bills.

From what I see from LG AC Tonnage calculator, 1.0 - 1.5 ton is sufficient for
each room. I also read from Hitachi Atom square specifications/pdf document that
when both the units are running each unit will get divided capacity. Which means
I would need to go for a minimum 2.0 ton capacity multi-split.

A LG 2.0 multi-split costs around 53 k and a Hitachi 2.0 multi-split costs
around 57 k.

I know for sure one of the rooms have the 15 amp socket while I am not sure about
the other room. Since in a multi-split we have only one ODU, is it a requirement
for both the rooms to have 15 amp sockets?.

For me space is not a constraint, however lower electrical load/electricity bills
are.

Also let me know of any other options in the 53 - 57 k price range or less.
(split/multi-split - 3 star, 1.0 - 1.5 ton)

My friend has a Hitachi 2 ton in his bedroom.
Its super chilling and this is coming from a person who normally doesn't approve any AC's until they are super chill.
Wish i could go for hitachi as well however in 1.5t i have selected Onida Split as they use the same compressor and is 13k cheaper.

After reading some more on multi-splits, I am confused on what it means
by "divided capacity". If I buy a 2.0 multi-split, will I get a 2.0 output on
both the IDUs when both the IDUs are running or will I get 1.0 on each
IDU?.

What are the ambient temperatures that you have in HYD? How many months in an year would the air cons be used or is it going to be around the year? Do the rooms have any walls exposed to direct sunlight? Is the roof exposed to the skies or is their another room above?

Temperatures hover around 45 degrees now. I will be using it for 3 - 4 months a year. None of the rooms have any walls exposed to direct
sunlight. The roof again is not exposed to the sky as I live in 3rd floor of an apartment and there are 3 more floors above mine.

For the 144sq ft room one could go with a 1.2 ton machine if the ambient temperatures were limited to the high 30s or if it were a coastal area. However in Hyderabad to have effective cooling when the ambient is anywhere close to 40 degree C the required tonnage would be 1.5ton. Try to limit the choice to General, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Hitachi and Panasonic.

If you have the budget and are interested in going green look at the 1.5 ton inverter models from Daikin, Panasonic and Hitachi these will be 9-10K higher than corresponding non inverter model of the same make.

Edit A member in Calcutta recently bought Daikin inverter 1.5 ton for 48000/- and was quoted a non-inverter 1.5 ton for 37000/-. General and Mitsubishi would be around the same price. Hitachi would be slightly lower and Panasonic has a complete range with prices ranging from near Hitachi and moving down to Carrier/Voltas levels as the corresponding star ratings go down.
