I take it back. It was just out of curiosity. Just read a comparison between iphone and iphone 3g and found iphone 3g has a plastic back to reduce signal interference for GPS.
I might drop my iphone to the ground when I buy one next month considering that I have dropped my Sony Ericsson K750i, a zillion times, accidentally ofcourse.

Sorry to dissapoint the Iphone lovers, but theres another piece of bad news regarding the security features of the Iphone. Apparently its possible to access information in the favourites folder, make calls etc... even when the phone is locked. For more details please see : Major Security Flaw in 2.0.2 - Mac Forums

Ooh, I can trump that. Do you remember version 1.1.1? Just visit jaibreakme.com with that firmware and watch as you iPhone gets hacked and rebooted over the air :D Who knows what apps are installed through that site. lol:

Wow I would call it spyware, not super duper stuff since it can be used for spying! One good thing is that if you are kidnapped, or your phone is stolen when on, you or your phone can be traced

Apps doesn transmit if not running, and thanks to the rules of app store, no 3rd party apps can run in the background also. So if you are kidnapped first thing is switch ON this app and then set the autolock to Never :)

Super Duper stuff, switch ON the apps let it connect to the GPS and drive around, walk, cycle, whatever. The iPhone app will send data to its site, and you can trace the path on google maps from the site or download the file on google earth for a neat walk through :)

Have you noticed that your wifey is downloading this data to your computer while you are asleep, and she knows about your complete whereabouts?:uncontrol

Me, I am never going to get this application on any phone that I buy. Way too risky !!stupid:

OT: he he but am a very good boy ok, no such worries cheers:

Also it needs a login and password to first register the phone, so it not an open access apps.

Purchased Dynolicious for iPhone. Review soon.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A security flaw in Apple Inc's iPhone allows unauthorized users to gain easy access to private contacts and e-mails even when the device is locked, but the company said a fix is on the way.

Popular technology blog Gizmodo and an online forum run by the Mac Rumors site showed that it took only three taps to gain access to locked iPhones, which run the latest 2.02 iPhone software.

A spokeswoman said in an e-mail that Apple was aware of the problem and was readying a software update to fix it. In the meantime, she recommended users set the iPhone's "Home" button to open up the phone's iPod music collection rather than the phone's "Favorites" menu.

The spokeswoman did not say when the software update would be made available.

Added a few more apps yesterday: No issues so far and am not really buying into the 3rd party apps causing crashing and all. I think its the users who are mostly to be blamed for these fiascos.

Apps added yday:

Palringo: **** rating, finally an app that will work with EDGE also ;)
Hurry mail: Help create favorite's for email id's
You note: Helps you take pic, voice, free hand/white board, regular keypad and internet pages as notes
Games: Labyrynth, Tilt snake, Dactyle, crash landing and my fav ipint, when am thirsty :)

Pretty good time pass this iPhone

I have been using my ssister's iphone for this weekend and have got pretty frustrated.

I am using maps for routing it. I enter start point as current location from GPS and tell it to route to destination point. If I need to use it as a routing tool it should update which is the next turn. It shows me for example 1 of 13 turns to my destination on the top but they don't keep getting updated as I go along. I have to manually press next turn. The minute you go drag to another point on the screen the GPS switches off i.e. the the bottom left GPS icon gets dehighlighted from previous blue. Okay that is more to do with the google maps app.

Another irritating thing while using google for navigation is the phone's timeout i.e. display off.

In case of WinMo if you are in google maps the phone never goes goes to standby. The screen may get dimmer but it will not turn off.

The iPhone is not a navigation device. It is an ASSISTANT, not a PND.

It will become a sort of PND (hardware dependent, again) once TomTom releases their Navigation software for the iPhone. The GPS receiver is fairly accurate - you're usually not very far off from where you're supposed to be according to the iPhone, swalpa adjust maadi.

Viddy set auto unlock to never and thats should resolve the GPS switch off issue also and yes its not yet a full fledged GPS device. But am very happy with the speed of locking in with the sats.

Yeah Jaggu I knew I could set auto unlock to never and It would always be there but that is a workaround. Then even in normal use it wont go to standby mode.

If you used google maps on the htc touch winmo you would realise that the screen doesnt go to standby only when in google maps application.

@steer, I was comparing the google maps on the iphone with the google maps on my htc touch. I have a bluetooth GPS receiver which is obviously more accurate than the iphone.

Built-in navigation (i.e., using the GPS receiver on the phone and a bluetooth receiver) on Windows Mobile PDAs and Phones is much more accurate than on the iPhone.

However, the iPhone seems to get a satellite 'lock' faster than WinMo devices. WinMo devices though tend to 'find' more satellites to lock on to (upto 11 which is the max I have noticed on my Tytn) than the iPhone, which probably explains the accuracy to a certain extent?

One of the main reason why i shifted from Touch was the screen size, which makes it impossible to try such antics with Google maps while driving ;)

Again iam used to power switch with Win mob to power off, even with iPhone time out with 2 mts i use power switch to kill display as soon as am done with my usage.

Update: added Seismometer and Remote :) With Siesmometer i think i can now confidentally say which car has more comfy back seat lol.

Labrynth is a real good time pass thingie, wifee was shopping and i didnt know the time go by and my wallet becoming lighter lol
