so many popular brands ?

Do i smell lawsuit ?
All one needs is to forward the link to BOSE. I think they've done more litigation than all the other brands combined

Interesting article. I wonder how it got published in rediff because it doesn't say anything about why not. These are some of the largest and most respected names in the world of audio and suddenly someone who no one knows much about says stay away from them !! Very very strange. I am not saying that the largest player is necessarily the best but when you publicly say stay away from a whole host of big brand names you owe it to us to explain why not.
Some people just try to sound technical to confuse ordinary people. Generally they have a vested financial interest in doing that. They are certainly avoidable.

lol. A little old? More like 8 years old. At that point there was hardly presence of JBL in india.

Must say it's a rather amuzing article.

Have you really studied the list that IS recommended?

1. Many like Cadence, Snell, Magnepan, JM Labs are in a very very different budget class
2. Many like Carver, ALR Jordan, dont even exist today (and were also expensive)
3. Many like Nakamichi are not the brand they used to be in the 70s
4. Some like Telome and Lithos are Indian manufacturers that have a long way to as far as styling, aesthetics and finish are concerned.
5. Optimus was an inhouse Radioshack brand that to my knowledge was never available in India

You could however compare JBL, Polk, and Infinity with present day Wharfdale. Boston Acousitcs, Mirage and Paradigm.

JBL might not make the best home audio speakers ever. Their sound signature is primarily rock oriented and ofcourse there are many speakers I like better but in my opinion they do offer a good value for money (Disclaimer: my son owns a JBL 12" subwoofer).

What to go for

B&W, ARCA, Cadence DS, Definitive Technology, Sync Audio, Paradigm, Phase Tech, ALP Jordan, Wharfedale, SAX, SRX, Denim, Carver, Mirage, Energy, JM Labs, Pinnacle, M&K, Boston Acoustics, Nakamichi, Snell, Jamo, Lithos, Telome, Mission, AE, Magnepan, Pandam, PSB, NHT.
I dont even know any of these brands. Only heard few of them. I am assuming that the above mentioned brands must be in the 'expensive' range.

Its like a man wants to buy a car and the author is like stay away from Swift & Getz, the only car to buy is BMW. I doubt it talks about VFM!!

My god! 8 years?
I was an unmarried, free soul then.

The author was smoking something really good while he typed in that. He has fitted almost every brand available in the world to one sentence. Woah! That's an achievement. Not even shake's pear (or something like a pear) wouldn't have thought about that.

Now, why am I typing about some decade old stuff?

I lost patience when the article said that audiophiles believe that horn speakers are more efficient. Speaker efficiency is, surely, something measurable and quotable in numbers? It has nothing to do with faith.

I sort-of tuned out, but did they give the one piece advice that every article on buying speakers should give? Almost all speaker salesman try to get you to buy higher wattage speakers because they will be louder. "These speakers have got 120W!". No [unpowered] speaker has 'got' any watts at all, and the salesman is talking crap"

Not a useful article to anyone.

LoL! That's a good point you've got there.
Not something an average man will always think or get right.

But when a speaker comes with a watt rating, it means that it can handle so much of power. Maximum output will be some humongous figure and the RMS power handling will be a reliable figure.

Coming back to the 8 year old article, it serves no purpose or benefit as a speaker review. Just some fill in article in their website.
But then again, it's an 8 year old one! Huh, we don't need to discuss this.

I did extensive research for a home theater system and finally, picked up harman/kardon AVR and JBL S310s. There are amazing. Planning to get the rest of the components soon.

What's surprising about the article is that there is no why we should away from certain brands and and why we need to buy the others.
