I lost my precious mobile phone last night. Was in a wedding, not sure if someone pinched it or it was dropped somewhere by a friend to whom I gave it to make a call (He was drunk and known to be careless :Frustrati). But I feel it was pinched by someone.

This happened in Goyla Dairy Area near sector 19, Dwarka. I guess I will go there to file an FIR of stolen mobile and try to get it tracked. But not sure if the cops would react properly or not. I just hope that the person who got my phone, made some calls from it, with my SIM still in it. That way call records would be very helpfull.

Anyhow couple of questions :

1. Can anyone help me such a position. Any experience in the situation, any influence with the cops of the zone :D, please do let me know. I can use it all.

2. Incase I am not able to find my phone, the what do you guys suggest is the best phone these days. Business phone, with all connectivity features, QWERTY keybord. I might zero in on Nokia E71.

3. I have lost everyones number. So I request all Delhi guys to PM me their numbers, or better SMS them to me. Please do mentioned your names too.

E71 is a good cellfone.
Go for it

I dont think the police is any good that they will track your phone.
Lost mine twice , but to no avail. ( Even though my uncle is an Honorary Special Police Officer)

Send me Rs.50,000/- in unmarked bills and I'll return your phone to you. It'll look almost brand new.

And I've deleted your address book.

I'll do the same in 40,000:D

On a serious note possibility of finding it is Zilch. So better start looking for a new one!

One can always hope. My sister lost her phone when she left it behind in an auto. We all thought it is lost and would never be found. After about 7 days cops called up on her official phone and asked she had lost her mobile. Apparently, the auto driver was caught for some other reason, and in the process the cops found out that the mobile was not his. Running through the phone list they tracked my sister. She got her mobile back. This happened about 2 months back in Bangalore.

Sad to hear the incidence shashank, Though you might have barred the connection i would still like to remind you for the same if you hadn't as let the thief not damage you more by setting your bill higher.

Regarding mobile you can not trust our Delhi police for tracing the Nokia 1100 so how can you trust them to trace your hi-fi mobile. I would suggest to put up imei no. online forums so as if in anycase some user purchases the same mobile, oyu can be alerted.

As per your usage i would suggest E71.

Forget the lost mobile phone and buy a new one.

Prepare a complaint letter in duplicate for the lost phone and get one copy stamped from the local police station, this is to protect yourself for phone misuse.(nowdays phones can be used for many destructive activities)

Go for Samsung phones with Mobile Tracker facility. Whenever anyone replace your original SIM in your phone you will receive SMS in your other designated numbers about new SIM inserted in stolen mobile phone.

It is very easy to trace lost mobile phone with the help of Mobile Tracker. My friend recovered his Samsung mobile phone in 2 days when security guard  of Eagleton Resort, Bangalore stole his cell phone. We went there for whole day company outing.

hmm, I got my number back y'day itself. So that is not a concern. But I need some milage with Dwarka cops. There are good chances that the mobile can be tracked, but cops need to work.

No cop will lodge an FIR for this. They'll ask you to file an NCR stating that you lost the phone, by your mistake. And finding a needle in a hay-stack is more probable than finding a lost phone.

\N

I lost my Iphone in a taxi, I met the cops at Azad Maidan police station, at churchgate, Mumbai.
I was asked to give the phones IMEI number, which will help them trace the phone. when it gets activated with any network.

You may get the phone if you have the IMIE number.

Bit OT but will be useful for all the people who are using Hi end phones and if its a Symbian series get a security application installed in it which works like this -

When your phone is lost or stolen someone will get hands on it right, The person will take out your sim and put in his sim at some point and the moment new sim is put in 2 messages shoot out from his number to the 2 numbers you had put in that application so now you get to know which Mobile number is using your phone and hence you can trace it easily. I have installed this in my N95 8gig and it works exactly how i described and is quiet useful in case mobile is lost or stolen.

Shashank.. you might catch up some contact in DP but still as others said it will be like finding a needle in sand.

This is exactly the same feature which Samsung and LG mobiles consists of by default. However been on windows mobiles one can use a Software name "SimMon" who does the same function.

You are right. And its a very handy feature IMO and must come as default in all mobiles.

Sorry to hear about the phone but I think you should forget about recovering it & move on......

Well, if you tell them your line of work, I think they might queue up to help....provided you guarantee them a good "private" placement:D
