Which radio transistor?

Weird.... but true! am looking for a radio transistor (not a pocket one nor a bulky old school types), normal sized that could play the stations @ FM/MW/SW.

seen philips.. not very fond, its a basic one. seen a local pocket types.. claiming to be world radio, very impressed, but the size was a problem.

which one do you guys suggest?

Philips one is actually among the best. We had this one and it could catch lots of international radio stations on SW. It had 6 SW bands along with regular MW, FM

Tecsun PL-660

I'm thinking of picking up a Tecsun PL-660 from Aliexpress. The below information is taken from the Aliexpress page.

TECSUN PL660 PLL SSB VHF AIR Band Radio FM Stereo/MW/SW/LW Radio Dual Conversion Portable Radio Receiver Y4133A

Tecsun PL-660 is a is a world band receiver with a comprehensive frequency coverage including FM/MW/SW/LW, single side band (SSB) and the aviation band (118-137MHz). So the PL660 stands out as one of the best world band receiver among its peers.

Features:
  1. FM stereo, AM, LW, SW, SSB and air band(118-137 MHz)
  2. Synchronous Detector: Upper Side Band (USB) and Lower Side Band (LSB)
  3. Synchronous detection and dual conversion technology are applied on AM band (Major improvement on receiver's sensitivity, selectivity, anti-inter-modulation, and channel interference)
  4. SW Single Side Band (SSB) with BFO control
  5. Air Band (VHF): For intercepting radio communication in aviation, such as commercial and general aviation, radio navigational aids, air traffic control. By using your PL-660's air band function, you may intercept communication between pilots and the air traffic control, but also other communication from commercial and general aviation, radio navigational aids and air traffic control.
  6. Multi Tuning Methods:
  7. Easy Tuning Mode (ETM)
  8. Auto Tuning Storage (ATS)
  9. Jog dial manual Tuning
  10. Auto-scan (5 seconds pre-listening)
  11. Frequency direct entry tuning
  12. Memory pre-setting manual tuning
  13. DX/Normal/Local Antenna Gain
  14. With 880mm(35 inch) 360° telescopic antenna
  15. Equipped with 3.5mm jack outdoor antenna, can significantly improve the reception of FM & SW
  16. 2000 preset memories (manually, semi-automatic and fully automatic)
  17. AM Bandwidth selection (wide / narrow)
  18. 9K / 10k for MW tuning step
  19. Sleep Timer (1~120 minutes)
  20. Built-in intelligent charging system to charge Ni-MH rechargeable battery
  21. Full set of accessories: power adapter, 4 pcs Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, outdoor antenna, stereo earphone, portable bag
  22. Well-designed and manufactured for the majority of radio enthusiasts

This set seems to have good reviews on the net.

https://radiojayallen.com/tecsun-pl-660/

A cheaper option is the Tecsun PL-210 but it does not have SSB. Is SSB really that important?
The PL-660 is US $116.44 (Rs. 8,111.12) whereas the PL-210 is US $62.99 (Rs. 4,387.84)

Re: Which radio transistor?

I had seen couple of good ones like XDR-P1DBP, XDR-S40..there was one which could catch 40 international stations forget the model. Not seeing it online even. Panasonic ones are better than Sony I felt. Which reminds me to get mine repaired as it had suffered a battery leak and is catching dust for ten years.

Re: Which radio transistor?

Do any of you use Radio at home? I mean like a pure radio setup! I use the Boston Horizon, one of the best for FM out there (Beats Bose Radio hollow). It would be interesting if you guys post your radios over here!
