My new friend - HTC HD
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadgets-computers-software/52307-my-new-friend-htc-hd.html)
Took the plunge today and got myself a HTC HD. It is only available thru contract with a service provider. But the good thing is that the set itself is not locked! :)
First, let the picture (taken from my Nokia 6300) do the introduction
The box that it came in. Nice and black!
And then, another black box within this box!
The phone is placed in a nice snuggy fitting. The SD card came along with the camera, a 8GB card.
The accessories. What you see are an extra stylus, headphone with integrated mic, the data cable (which is also the charger), the charging adapter and the plug pins and also the pouch.
Once it get the booting and first time initializations, this is what you get. Need to check if I can get some other clock for this. Notice the front camera for video calls. Have not even set the time!
The camera and an inscription below that saying "F2.8 Auto Focus 5.0 Mega Pixels".
The regular jack pick for the head phones.
A close up shot of the adapter. Took me couple of seconds to understand how the hell it was supposed to be used! Even with the plug socket, you need to use the USB cable for charging.
Been having it for just 3 hrs now and do not think I can review it at all. But just to put in few initial observations:
- felt very light in the hand. with the size, expected it to be a handful, which, fortunately, is not.
- the touch keys at the bottom, though without any backlight, do cause a short vibration when engaged. A good feedback.
- the touch screen is responsive. I still have the protective cover that came in the box, the one with all those wordings; need to remove that put the provided screen cover.
- the provided pouch is lousy and is difficult to push the phone in and take it out. Going in for a leather cover shortly.
PS: Apologies for the quality of pictures.
Oh Man I am so jealous of You... Its been my dream phone for a longggggg time.
Congrats HappyWheels, I am sure the phone will never disappoint You.
nice how much is it? and congratz :)
Congrats Happywheels & Welcome to HTC Club!
Do post a review after few days.
Even I was impressed with the packaging & bunch of accessories provided by HTC.
Thanks guys!
Exited as hell. Just setup the WiFi to use my house wireless and downloaded the QuickGPS update. Need to do a lot more.
Cost around 30k INR with a 24 months break clause. The max incase of breakage, that is breaking contract in the least amount of time, is around 16k INR.
And... it took me a whole 10 minutes just to figure out how to save my dialed number into contact! God, I need to read those manuals!
Congrats! That is some phone! Nice big screen, and a propah 3.5mm headphone socket.

The 3.5mm jack is the best thing! Now with 8GB on disposal, and a wonderful headphone, I can hear music during all that travel!
And with so much of space I can also use it as a external hard disk!

With that screen, you can also watch movies comfortably :)

A relative of mine bought it this week. He paid around 40k for it.
Congrats on the HD! Think it's the first one in T-BHP.

It should be ok once you start using it. Is it the suede finish one? if so, it is good because it fits right and also provides good protection in case you drop the phone with the cover on.

Welcome to the world of windows mobile! Once you get the hang of it though, you will find the regular phones hard to use/dial. Try out the touch-Flo interface :)

Only if the battery backup is adequate. Hope they have addressed this with the HD. My touch does not last more than a day with some moderate usage.
Congrats man, I wanted to buy this phone since its launch!

Are you sure, is it 30k? From where did you buy?

Great phone. I have a 8GB transflash card in mine and it is one of the best phones I have owned.
Install G-Sensor so it tilts the screen when you rotate.
I put a cooked ROM on mine and it is much better than the default ROM that came pre-installed.
Install miomap/mireo on it and hey presto you have a very capable satnav system in your hands.

Browsed this thread using the phone and wanted to respond from that. Tried for few minutes and ran out of patience!!! Used only fingers and made some progress, but more getting used to required. Maybe stylus would have been better option.

That is the best thing, in terms of interface, in this unit! Tried the regular menu and man what a difference in terms of usability! Never going back to that unless no other option exists.

I got this here at Singapore. The figure I gave is the rough (@33Rs to $) estimate.

The stylus is much better and quicker to use. Also helps kee grubby fingermarks off the screen if you have not applied the screen protector. I did not like the pouch that came with it and bought a hard leather pouch off ebay for a few quid.
