Just updated my L800 with the updates pushed by Zune. Internet tethering is the only noticable thing till now..

You should also have Static IP settings for Wifi networks. These are the two big changes that I am aware of.

I checked for update through zune, but i am getting message that your phone is up to date. Current Phone software version is 7.10(8107). Any reason why i am not getting the recent update?

Firmware revision number in my phone is xxxxx.xxxxx.8107.12070

You will get the update in due course of time. Relax.

My HTC HD7 already had internet tethering.

So, what does 7.8 bring in for my phone?

This is not 7.8. This is the build called Tango. 7.8 will be released along with WP8.

Ok. And older phones will get only 7.8, right? No WP8 for the existing line-up?

Yes, older phones will only 7.8 becasue WP8 does not support single core processors.

This is a Microoft OS update which is being provided for all handsets irrespective of manufacturer. According to the news the Tango update is available for the Omnia W in India also.

Connect your phone to Zune and and check if it is showing any updates for your phone.

In addition to Microsoft update for Tango. There was additional update from Nokia for their handsets. So there were three updates in succession which took nearly two hours to install.

First was pre-Tango (to make backup optional), Then Tango (7.10.8773.98) and finally Nokia update.

Tango update says, it contains -
1. Facility attach multiple photos, music/video to sms
2. SIM functions
3. Other quality improvements

Nokia update didn't say what it was for, but I could see Internet sharing option which can be from Nokia. There was rumor that Nokia update contains battery life improvement. But I could not find any improvement.

Lumia 610 is planned to released today. If there is no upgrade path, who will go with 610?

The Lumia 610 is a lower end model. The main reason for this model's existance is for MS to enter the budget phone market. Most of the people who will buy the 610 will not be the kind who will worry too much about OS updates.

Nokia Lumia 610 has been released today at a price tag of Rs.12,999/-. It presently comes with Windows Phone 7.5 OS, but as announced by Microsoft all WP 7.5 OS will have an option to upgrade to WP 7.8 when WP 8 is launched. This upgrade will give WP7.5 users the same layout at WP8 except for those features that require better hardware.
