That link was pulled down and Flipkart has upped the price... Pre-order now @ 18,999 with 16 GB memory card.

When it launches, the price should be around 17,500 I believe.

Vikram, do the Nokia Drive maps need an online connection, or is it offline based?

I am not sure if things have changed in Windows 8. In WP7/ 7.8 this is a seriously frustrating issue! The Nokia Drive shall require you to be online. Even though you have downloaded the complete map on Nokia Maps, it cannot be used for navigation! I do not understand, why can't Nokia sort this simple issue?

Nokia Drive does not need to be online for navigation per se. But it needs to be online if you are trying to search for a specific address or POI. I have used it a few times for navigation and I prefer to keep it online as the downloaded maps do not have all the POIs and this is a list which I think gets updated on a daily basis.

In the WP8 version of Nokia Drive, you can be completely offline for navigation. But as mentioned earlier, the downloaded maps do not have all POIs. This is also the reason that I didn't jump on to the WP bandwagon immediately. I happily used my old HTC HD2 with WP7/7.8 and when the HTC 8X came out I bought that directly

Is it a limitation of the map or the integration with the OS? I want to know if only an update of the app can solve the problem for me on WP 7.8?

So will I need to be online if I need to search a street address around me, or if I need to search for a multiplex / shopping centre by name?

If I remember correctly there was a true offline version for WP7/7.8 also, but I'm not really sure. The limitation in this particular case was of the app and not the OD.

Yes, only if the POI you are looking for is not already there in the downloaded offline map. If it is already present then no need to be online. What I normally do for POIs that are not present in the offline maps is to navigate to them using the app and then add them to my favourites. That way the next time I need to navigate there, I don't need to be online.

That being said being online will only use data to fetch the coordinates of the POI. But the actual navigation is completely offline. I have tested this. First locate POI, then start navigation and then disable data on the phone and it has worked perfectly. Even re-calculating a route has worked fine without a data connection.

This does not help my need for navigation, and I usually only need directions when I am looking for a new address, very often in the Industrial Areas around my workplace. What you do is probably helpful when I'm going to be in one city for a few days, would help me getting back to the office / coffee / dinner place if I wish to without hunting for directions.

That is really good then, atleast better than needing to have the data pack switched on through the entire route. Thanks a ton for the information.

My Wife has preordered Black Nokia Lumia 720 from Flip kart.
Hope, it will be shipped before May 1 2013 and satisfies her requirements.

How good are the Nokia maps in India?
I am trying to compare them with Google maps on my desktop web browser, and Nokia map (takes me to here.com) really falls short ...

After a long time got back to my HTC HD7 yesterday. I have an option to go for a new phone by end of the month. Was thinking of Lumia 920, and wanted to see if WP excites me more than the iPhone.
It’s a bit of a struggle to get back to WP 7.8 (from iPhone 4S). Those who have used WP 7.8 and WP8 – how different is the user experience? I mean, in what all aspects the 8 feels like a real improvement?

Another point I noted when I switched back to the HD7 – Normally I sync my contacts from my hotmail (WP or iPhone), and this time I noticed that all the hotmail contacts shown on my laptop is not getting displayed on my phone. A quick search online revealed that Microsoft have a restriction to sync only 100 contacts (to avoid spam itseems), and if you need to have all the contacts shown, you need to validate your phone number via sms.live.com. Strange ways, but once it was done, all the contacts got into the phone.

I received my 822 a few days ago and here is how I feel about it,
(822 is the same as 820, expect for looks, so the review would be valid for both)
(My primary phone is iPhone 5)

The phone feels really nice when held considering its plastic. Compared to this all Samsungs are leagues behind in build quality.

When I saw it in the pics at Nokia's website, it looked ancient, but it isn't. Frankly I feel it's not bad looking at all.

But as far as the OS is concerned, I'm not that happy. For one WP8 cannot sync with outlook's offline profile. I mean if Microsoft can sync it's 2 products then how will thy manage the rest. I still don't know how to sync the calendar with the phone, I have synced the contacts through a Microsoft live account.

Also there is no dedicated contact list for phone numbers. Facebook and the rest are all shown together.

The camera is not nice as I expected. It's crap frankly, iPhone 4/4S/5 are leagues ahead.

Sound quality out of the headphone jack is OK at best. The speakers could have been louder and without the shrill. It's ok for normal use, don't sound so good when music is played off them

Data sense is a neat feature which allows you to track mobile data usage

App Store is more underwhelming than I thought. Very limited apps and I didn't like the quality of most apps.

The home screen UI is interesting, especially with the people, FB and best friends' tiles. But I'm sure I will get bored pretty soon.

The camera app has a button which lists all types of lenses and addons for photo clicking. Pretty helpful as you needn't run around to the find the app you want when you need to click a pic fast

The settings are built in a modular way, so when Nokia wants to update a particular setting to add or remove a feature, it just shows that update, and there is no need to overhaul the system. This feature I love above iOS because iOS is idiotic in that matter, requiring a full reset of the device

What are the new features in windows 7.8? I am planning to get my lumia 610 updated this weekend.
