Hand-held Computer

Hi,

My b'day is coming soon (01st March), and I am thinking of gifting myself a gadget. I am looking for a hand-held computer and found Cowon Q5W (COWON America).

It is a PMP rather than a full-fledged PC, and runs on WIndows CE 5.0. But it has received excellent reviews and is supposedly the best audio/video player amongst it's breed. It had good wi-fi capabilities and the browser is also very good.

I am almost sold on it, but am a bit skeptical about Windows CE. I doubt whether there will be many software available for it. If you guys have anything better in mind, please suggest.

I already have an iPod, and had burnt my fingers with iPhone, so Apple products are out of contention. Suggest me something else, with a screen-size of at least 5".

Cheers

Nitin

Buddy, I don't want a phone. I already have a decent business phone (Palm Treo 750), which gives me all these functionalities. But I want something bigger (screen-size about 5-6").

You can have a look at the new product promoted by HCL - PowerSurfer 2 which gives you a browser on a wide screen to browse using GPRS via a inbuilt SMS Card.
For details

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

I think it is below 40K INR.

Based on what you need there is a MID device called the OQO. The specific model that i would recommend would be the OQO model 2+. It runs windows Vista and XP in a nice manner.

Prices start at USD 999 for the base model. I think you can add a GOBI (All kind of Mobile standards radio like GSM/CDMA etc) 3G modem for an additional 200. You can get a GPS dongle or inbuilt (I am not Sure) and it will make a take any where do anything kind of Computer.

Here are the links

oqo

There are also some more models like the Benq one and more . The sony Vaio P is also a cool and small computer.

OQO looks interesting but is kinda expensive. Vaio P is sexy, but i don't want want a lappy, i want a hand-held :-)

UMPCs from sony or samsung are what you are looking for. you may get good deals on older versions if your requirements are not too high.

What is your budget? what are your needs?

What you basically want is something below netbooks but above phones. they are called UMPC's.

Do look at

Nokia's N810 Internet tablet
Sony MYLO
SONY PSP.
SONY UX
ASUS R50

Hi,

I've finally decided on HP Mini 1001TU - HP® Official Store - HP Mini.

It is a NetBook with a 10.2" screen and looks oh so sexy. I haven't been able to think of any practical usage for it so far, but I will :-)

I found a really good cover for it on eBay-US -
Leather Case for HP Mini PC 1000 NetBook
. I searched a lot for something similar available in India, but couldn't find any. Any pointers where I can find it?

Cheers
