Tax Planner - Calculator for Financial Year 2008-2009

Hi Friends,
I discovered Team-BHP couple of years back and have been vastly benefited by it. I am no car expert and have little to give back to this community. So I thought, why not share a tool that I have designed and created.

The Tax Planner/Calculator
This Tax Planner allows you to plan your tax savings and also aids in computing taxes based on your salary details. It also has calculators for finding EMI, value of PPF, how to become crorepathi etc. Please give your suggestions. I hope it is useful to atleast a few here.

File Type/Size
Easy to Use Excel Sheet of 75 KB

Direct Download Link
You can Right Click and Save Target As

You can also use the file attached with this post tax_planner_2008-2009_ver3.0.xls

Suggestions on using the Tax Planner

1. There are three sheets in the Excel file.
  • First one is the "Planner" and it is empty for you to use.
  • The Second one is called "Sample Tax Calculation" where I have shown a sample for you.
  • The Third sheet is very useful with 'Handy Calculators' for EMI, returns and How to become crorepathi.
2. Input your Sex by Selecting either 'Male' or 'Female' in the drop down combo box and also supply your age as this will affect the tax calculations
3. Input your salary and investment data in the 'Yellow' coloured cells only. The others cells are disabled to aid you better. If you want you can unprotect the sheet and edit any cell you wish. There is no password for the protection
4. You can change your investment details to see the immediate effects in your tax calculations. for example if you are planning to buy a house, you can input the 'Principal' and 'Interest' you will pay per year and see how that will save you tax.

Screenshots of the Tax Planner/Calculator

1. The Tax Planner Sheet (There will 2 sheets like this, one for you and one with sample calculation)

Believe Ynithya developed the IT calculator. Looks are similar. Might be wrong from my end.

Hi lambuhere,
I have also seen ynithya's. It is much more comprehensive and detailed and probably perfect. The one I had done was initially for my own use and later modified for others slightly and is meant to be extremely simple to use. No offense meant, but I don't see anything similar between the two sheets except for too much yellow in both of them.

For tracking Daily expenses, I use Google Docs - very simple, and easy to use. You just need to follow these steps (only the first time):

1. Go to Google Docs, and create a new Spreadsheet

2. Go to the Form menu, click on 'Create a form'.

3. Add questions to your form - For eg. I have added the following to my spreadsheet:
    • Date of Transaction
    • Amount
    • Payment method (Cash/Credit card etc).
    • Spending Category (Phone/Car/Clothes/Travel etc)
    • Description

4. Once you are done with the questions, save the form, and email the form to yourself. Don't forget to include 'Include form in the email' checkbox.

5. Bookmark the link for the form in your browser. It will be something like this: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=xxxxxxxxxx. You can also add the link to the form via quick link in your gmail inbox.

6. So, now whenever you want to make an entry just fire this link in your browser, and enter in the values.

These values will automatically get stored on the google doc spreadsheet you had created. Just open this sheet in your google docs account to have a look at your expenses. Depending upon your needs, you can create custom reports using these stats.

I like this method of tracking one's expenses because:
- Can assess the form/spreadsheet through my mobile or laptop - either way.
- Can customize according to my needs.

Rs 2,052,700.

Hover your mouse pointer over it. The calculated figure is more then the locked cells size.

Hi ashthedivx, Yes, found that problem after uploading (at 35k it starts). If you are a bit familiar with excel, You can unprotect the sheet "Tools->Protection->Unprotect Sheet" and slightly increase the width of the cell (column) to solve it (or remove the bold setting).
Will fix it in next revision :-)
