All phones to share common charger by 2012

Will be good if it occurs but I think Apple are sticking to their own charger.

The new standard is expected to be 50% more efficient that current chargers and the group is bullishly predicting it will eliminate around 51,000 tonnes of duplicates being shipped.

Finally! This means, no more outstation trips with 5 different types of chargers floating around the house. Why didn't they think of this earlier?

Now, can laptop manufacturers please follow suit.

Why 2012 and why not earlier. Surely if Nokia can have different pins on different models at the same time, what is to stop them on making it uniform right now.

When this finally happens, will the phone cost include charger (bundled) or charger be sold separately.

Expect phone prices to be increased a little then. These things are sold at such a markup to make up some money which they lose by cutting phone prices.

should be separate, so I don't accumulate ten chargers of the same type over a period.

charger making will be a strong industry by itself then. and much better for us living in the cars types, who have a twofold problem today.

Ok, rather late post. Year is 2020, I have a 65w Type-C USB laptop charger. I can use the same charger to charge my phone (which has Type-C usb).

I guess Type-C USB charger was what the world was looking for

With Apple likely to go with USB-C, the common charger problem for phones & laptops is solved. Even the laptops are coming with USB-C chargers now.

But we have the next frontier - that is common chargers for smartwatches.
