Just saw the full page ad in TOI.
Not sure who are all are capable of providing the HD source at this point in india. Anyways a nice a step forward.
Here is the website...
Sun Direct DTH Service
And here is shocking price list...
Sun Direct HD
100rs per month per channel...:Frustrati
Hoping for others to come up with similar channels. Now it will be good to watch big screen TVs
The direct website for HD is
Sun Direct HD
their service is really HD?I suspect when the resolution is 4:3!

Its mentioned as 16:9. But only two channels in HD currently
Wow. Most awaited.
I am hopping that the major players will catch up soon.
However I will wait until more channels are added to the package.
100 Rs per channel is insane !! I was eagerly waiting for this. Looks like I have to wait more for competition to step in.
Tamil and Telugu channels in HD. lol:
Looks like currently the HD channels are only a Tamil and a Telegu channel. I wonder if these would only be upscaled to HD resolution and broadcasted.
The site says they are still tying up with Nat Geo and Discovery. I guess till then it may be a waste to go for this.
Nat Geo and Discovery won't cut it.
We need movie channels in HD. And 100 bucks per channel is just not worth it.

If that is true, then Sun should be charged for deceptive advertising (perhaps the claim HD had a fine print). I saw the ad today and was quite interested. Now not keen at all, considering the switching costs and time.
Yup, saw in today's papers. It was a pleasant surprise! Didn't expect HD to be in India so soon.

Yes ! :D This is indeed great news, at the least, it should have the other DTH operators sit up & take notice.
A single blue-ray disc retails for Rs.1800 ! At Rs.1200 for a whole
year, HD channels (in English at least) are definitely worth it. Add a few channels like Discovery & NGC & you have HD nirvana for the price of a
handful of blue-rays.
I'm definitely going for DTH-HD once Discovery & NGC are on-board...
Nowhere on the website it mentions the resolution. The true HD resolution is 1920 by 1080 pixels. The general CRT tv's won't be able to utilize this thing and the most of the current breen of LCD tv's have resolution 1366 by 768 which is called HD ready. So even these LCD can't make a full use of this HD feed.
