You can go in for haltechs or Halda's or Apexi's. they would ideally cost upwards of RS 60k. If you need one I can supply you with it.

Boss,

You need to be specific as to what you want. These products are not stocked and will be available on order only.

I suggest you try using google.

Just type the names of some manufacturers, like
terratrip or haltechs, Halda, Apexi etc.

I'm sure you can get a lot of info, and decide on what you want.

After that you can ask people here on how to get it.

Just FYI i have a terratrip (forget the model number) and they are very good.

But there is very little difference between all the top models.

EDIT: What car do you have? You should also consider the kind of speedo pickup the car has. As its easier to run the computer from that

Viper
Viper ,
I dont think they cost that much , i have got 3 (Halda , terratrip , and bains )of them and i dont remember paying more than 25 k for any one .
I mean the terratrip 303 + with the remote zerouing unit was like 24500 , and they are avalable in singapore or in KL .

Dear Shan2nu,
Well the basic difference between a GPS and a Rally computer is that the Rally Comp does not give you the latitude & Longitude of a place , and u cant map the route on a Rally Comp as you can do it on a GPS .
I have a Terratrip 303+ and the description of it is given below .
Description:
Features two readouts that will display combinations of time-of-day and stopwatch, time-of-day and interval distance, total distance and interval distance, or instantaneous speed and average speed. Total distance to 999.99, interval distance to 99.99, can count up, count down, or be frozen. The unit can be switched between miles and kilometers, and features dual, four-digit calibration for different tire sizes. Calibration factors are stored on an internal memory when the unit is switched off. Works with any two Terratrip probes or dual sensor interface. Available with remote display that can be set for speed, interval distance, or average speed. Also available with remote zeroing unit for control when the co-driver is out of reach of the unit.

I have been lucky enough to have both and used the terra trip and the gps on the last rally i went on (Desert Storm '2005).
The gps was a dream , i got the exact distances that were written on the road book , it was perfect and acurate to the last meter and it gave me a lot of other information like max speed travelled , time , total distance travelled ,odometer , overall average ,total time travelled etc etc ...
For some one who is planning to get one he should go for the GPS ...
Let me know if you need any further info ..

So, can the rally computer be used for 0-100, 1/4 mile, lateral Gs etc?

How much does it cost?

GO for Garmin ..>>>>>>>>>>

Dear Shan2nu,

For all the events mentioned by you (0-100, 1/4 mile, lateral Gs) I would think a GPS would be a better option. its hand held , portable , needs no wires and basically u dont need any navigation in he events mentioned by you , so the terratrip wount be really thats helpfull .

My choice would be a GARMIN GPS 76 . and a Roof mounted entina . both of them would set you back by about 35 k +
Garmin GPS 76 - around 25 k or 26 k
10 k for the Roof mounted entina .
Terra trip 303 + would be around US$ 350 , the remote zerouing unit would be around another 40 us$ and the unversal japanese probe another 70 us$ and the electronic probe if the car u ae going to drive has no wires in the speedo meter ,then please add another 5k ,

BUT THE BIGGEST THING IS -Terratrip is not easily avalable in INDIA , and then u have to ask some one to get it and then have it sent here, then go to a mech and get the damm thing fitted , that would be another 2k or 3k , depends i got mine fitted in 1999 and i wont like to name the person here charged us Rs.5000/- and that to he kept the car for like 3 days ...[u]

Now on the other hand GARMIN GPS are now avalable in INDIA ...
So u decide ....

Shantanu,
Adding to Badcheetah you could either using the garmin equipment or the Racelogic VBOX 2 DGPS equipment..

The VBOX can be used to measure a number of different parameters of a vehicle's performance, both straight line acceleration/braking and cornering. Complicated tests can be set up in a number of minutes, using comprehensive templates, and to trigger at a certain point on a test track, you can define a "virtual" gate which is referenced using the GPS.

The VBOX can measure the following parameters without the need for any other sensors:

Velocity over ground (kmh/mph)
Distance
Time
Position
Time Heading (degrees true north)
Latitude (minutes)
Longitude (minutes)
Height
Lateral acceleration
Longitudinal acceleration
Vertical velocity (kmh/mph)
Radius of turn
Circuit position
Track layout
Lap time
