Shop in the US from India @ 20North - Collinite+wax : Blended

This is a good site - which gives you 2 options - a - take the risk of importing as a gift (similar to DX) b - legally pay duty and import it.

It's been around for quite some time now - never heard anything adverse abt it, however do your homework before-hand.

The status went through "waiting for supplier" -> received -> packaging.

anyone else faced a similar issue?

That's how your order is processed, Your order is collected form the supplier and then packed in a separate section and then shipped, Wait for a day or two and you will see the status to "Shipped via air mail"

P.S: My order says " The item left Hong Kong for its destination on 15th oct"
When can i expect it to land up in the foreign post office?
I'm assuming a flight from HK would take 3 hrs to come to India(Chennai) and then 20 mins to Bangalore and then 2 hrs to the FPO. stupid:

It takes 3 - 4 days.

First it lands on airporst PO, then sent to FPO.

Is it risky to import as gift even when the total value is less than 10K, as they mentioned? But some of the units are mentioned as refurbished!

Yes there is always some risk with this.

Two major risks:
1."Value" of gift is determined by customs person working in FPO. E.g. PND that i got, actual payment was INR 6k. It was evaluated at 8.5k. If evaluation takes value beyond 10k, it would be a problem.
2. They can question if this is actually a "gift" or not.

At a practical level, chances of this actually happening are slim since you would order it as a "gift" to your spouse or someone else. And values is 6k, so even inflated valuation should nto take it beyond 10k.

It's not a hopping flight from DX's warehouse to FPO via Chennai - have patience... it should take a week or two... it ain't DHL buddy :D

Thanks for the advice guys.
So, if i want to install free maps, i should go with mio. But if i want a fill-it-shut-it-forget-it kind of thing, then Garmin it is?

Garmin all the way.

Just load maps and update that once a year.

Once a year? There have been 2 this year already!

Yes but for an average user, keeping track of upgrades and chasing the company for:

1. Unlock Key
2. Zip file password

Is too much work.

Quite a few colleagues seems to be happy with previous versions of maps and do not bother updating.

Netfreak received the stuff from the FPO 2 days after it left HK. Netfreak please confirm and tell me when to go to the FPO.

Not sure about Bangalore, in Mumbai it does not take more than 2 -3 days.
