Excellent recommendation!

And since Robin deleted the wrong post, I have to post a reply to Ajmat once again:

Ajit the Dopod you've looked at is a Windows Smartphone, not a Windows Mobile Pocket PC Edition. The differences are many, but basically you dont have a touchscreen.

The P1i is somehow not up there with the best, somehow. For starters its got the same screensize of the M600i which wasnt optimal. Then it shares the same quirky keyboard with two letters per key - not very user friendly.

There are other Dopods you could look at or the HTC series (Dopod redistributed HTC products under their brand, and have now been taken over by HTC).

I think the HTC Touch would be a great choice for someone with your requirements. You dont need 3G in India, so its primary shortcoming doesnt apply. The other shortcoming was its ability to handle a large number of add-on apps - I somehow dont think you're the sort who will 'mod' your phone so it should be perfect for you. The fact that it looks very svelte and business-like compact is the icing on the cake.

The battery life is a problem with this one plus the Nokia E6X series would do better as far as PDA functions are concerned.

Spotted the E62 selling for <10K at Indiaplaza. Whereas the E61 and E61i are around 16+.

The 62 seems to be no frills and meets most of my requirements, right ?

Other options at Indiaplaza;
HTC 3400 @ 14.5K
Dopod D600 @ 14.6K
iMate SP5M @ 11K
iMate JAQ @ 11.9K
iMate Jama @ 13.7K
iMate SPL @ 14.3K

I try to avoid clamshells if I can.

@shuvc... The E62 comes without WiFi, and 3G, rest everything remains exactly the same as E61 and it meets all your requirement except maybe size.

I wish I saw your thread earlier. I went and bough a P1i yesterday.

I was actually going to go fot the HTC touch but

1: They could not assure me that it would synch with an Apple Mac
2: Call it bad luck - a customer at that moment comes in with a touch and seemed to have quite a few problems with it

The clincher was tht sony ericsson service was good and there is a service centre in my back yard

Thanks for your advise though

Just make sure to stay on top of all the firmware updates and the P1i should be fine I feel.

You should've asked me - I sync my HTC phones with my Mac. You need to buy software though - its called "The Missing Sync".

Most customer issues with Pocket PC phones is awareness related. People that are used to 'phone-phone's wont adjust very quickly to PDA Phones.

Dunno how long will they continue providing upgrades for this one. I hope the buyers of this phone arent beta testers just like the one's who bought P990i and are still waiting for the feature listed in the white paper to be implemented.
I for one would never ever buy a SE smart phone.

@kpzen... Nopes I dont think there's any mobile with WiFi <10k's.
Though Nokia has just come up with Nokia 6301 UMS, its has Wifi and will be priced keenly I am sure.
Read abt it here GSMArena.com - GSM reviews, opinions, votes, manuals, ringtones and more...

Its finally time to put my O2 xda 2 mini to rest. It has served me well for over 2 years of hard use and abuse. I'll get around 5k for this and I can spend another 20k max for a new phone. I need a Windows based business phone. Camera, music player, radio and all that jazz is not required. Suggestions please.

I was offered the HTC Touch for 19.5k. But I believe that it comes with a very slow processor. How much does that affect the "handling" so to speak?
Thanks in advance.

The E61i is about 17K. The E61 now sells for 11-12 K but is not easily available in the market.

The general feedback is that the Symbian OS on the E series is very stable and almost never crashes. The Windows OS is a little bit of a memory hog and I don't have details about it's stability.

I have had an E61 for close to 10 months now and I am still amazed with the things that you can do with this phone. I use it as a GPS navigator, a VOIP phone with Skype out, a DicX player, an Internet Radio and my last experiment was installing a webserver. (https://sharathjeppu.mymobilesite.net)

Offcialy, I use it to get my office mail, synchronize calendar, contacts and tasks with our company exchange server. I can use Microsoft ActivSync or Blackberry Connect both work quite well.

It's also faily rugged. I have droped the phone from table hight several time and except for some minor scretches, it has no indications or having undergone abuse :-)

I also have put in a 2 GB card in it to store maps, movies and songs.
