Looking for a mid-premium phone and was looking at Moto Edge 50 Pro considering it's clean UI (near stock) and good Camera specifications.
Is there any feedback from BHPian?

Using the phone for almost a month now. I have the 12GB version. Normal usage with no gaming of any sort. Do let me know if you have anything specific in mind.

Specifically, I wanted to know about 2-3 things:
  1. How's the general performance? Does it stutter in doing some heavy apps. Do apps remain in memory?
  2. Does camera app take some time before next picture can be taken?
  3. How's it to handle. This seems to be a long phone. Do curved display and back provide better handling or it's just for looks?
  4. Phone comes with a longer Software update commitments than usually found in Motorola. Have you seen any updates (or security patch) coming through?

Apart from using another camera app, I don't know what to do. The refining also shows up in the notification bar.

To check- Take a bunch of photos and then open the native gallery app- you can see the photos getting ruined in real time.

I haven't checked yet but I see I turned off 2 more settings from the camera app - 1. The filter option is turned on by default. I have kept it at original. 2. There's also another option that allows smoothening etc - I have turned that off as well.

Absolutely no issues with general performance. However my usage is limited to apps like browser, WhatsApp, youtube, Kite from Zerodha. So can't comment on heavy apps. This is a not a top tier performer for sure.

I've clicked photos and didn't find any issues whatsoever. Some of the talked about delays are observed when you click a lot of photos (5-6) very quickly and try to view them immediately. Takes about 2-3 secs to complete processing. I've not tried taking multi burst photos.

This is not a very long phone. It appears longer as its narrower than its competition. The decreased width makes it very convenient to hold but also decreases the width of the keyboard. I enjoy the size but I'm also observing increased typos during typing.

Phone came with Mar 24 security patch and has received the May 24 patch. Another update came in today.

Any Motorola Edge 40 owners here? Have you been able to find a screen guard and / or a good case for this phone? If yes, please share details.
TIA

Dear cogwheel,

I use Moto Edge 40 Neo. I got the UV screen guard from a local shop here and the case I'm using is from a website link below.

Their transparent hard back case with soft frame is of good quality. Holding well.

I am using S23 since 15 months now. And I am not satisfied with its display and camera picture quality. My earlier S10 screen display is 100x better than S23. I am not sure why. Is it mere because of screen resolution of S10 3040x1440 vs S23 1080x2340?

Samsung has ruined S23 screen display.

I want to buy a new phone and my requirements are top notch camera picture quality and screen display.

Any suggestions? I don't want to switch to iPhone. S24 ultra seems logical upgrade but is bulky to handle. I am a bit sceptical on S series now.
Is there any other phone which fulfills my requirements?

Get the Oneplus 12. It has a 12k exchange bonus on oneplus.in and on Amazon. You should be getting a very good value for your S23.

Got the CMF by Nothing Phone 1 and, boy, it is BANG FOR THE BUCK!

THE GOOD

Cameras are awesome, and it even beat my cousin's iPhone 13 Pro Max in 1 or 2 instances. He got really embarrassed and kept his phone aside.

Performance is really good, for my usage of reels, LinkedIn and Team-BHP, occasional gaming, it does the job really well. 6/128 is more than sufficient for my usage.

Display is really good, 120HZ locked in, no dynamic refresh rate, thank goodness, it gets really annoying.

Battery is the highlight. Lasted me a day and a half on a full charge and I still had 19% left when I juiced it back up!

I got the blue variant, which is a leather back and it really feels premium to hold. It's soft and really nice.

THE WANTS

NFC is a miss on this.

The vibration motor is meh. They could have gotten a better one. I've set it to Low, that's where it feels nice, the high levels are way too aggressive.

The phone has an OLED display, but it lacks Always on Display. Phones in this price bracket get this.

Overall, it's a really good package for 15K! If anyone is looking for a phone in this price, just get this, no questions asked

Experts, please suggest a good Android phone in 20-30k range. Display and camera are important, can do with average performance, battery life and in-hand feel. This will be my secondary phone and use case is mainly calling and media consumption. I click a lot of pictures too so expandable storage must be there.

I'm not keen on brands like Oppo, Vivo or Xiaomi (have mostly bad experiences with their budget phones). Budget can be extended by another 5k for a really good model. Please suggest some options.

I am discovering that the Pixel 7a is now available for 36k if you don't mind coral pink.

Was keen on the idea of a Pixel last year, but unwilling to extend the budget. I have only had my Moto 84g since February, and there is nothing wrong with it except that it does not support my Starkey hearing aids.

NB: if buying a phone for elders in the family, then if they wear hearing aids, do check this out. I don't know what it is with Android and the hearing aid industry, but simple bluetooth, good enough for every other device in the world, is not good enough for aids.

The pixel 7 also cost the same if you factor in card discount. Even without card discount it is only expensive by 2k.
So if you're considering pixel 7a then definitely get the pixel 7.

I guess there will be no features left in 7 which is available in 7a

You may check out the Nothing phone series or OnePlus Nord series.

For this budget, I would recommend the Samsung A35. It has a midrange performance but ticks every other box for a secondary.phone. It does have a hybrid Sim slot for expandable storage. Regardless, I would recommend you to.invest in a cloud storage for the flexibility.

Gosh, the black one is, at this moment, the same price.

I'm not buying immediately, and will reconsider this when the time comes. Maybe the 9 will have come along, and a little more may be shaved off the older-model prices.

I think (?) that the 7a is actually a younger model than the 7. I don't think there is anything in the comparison columns that I find iresistable, except size, and, on that basis, the 7a wins. It's so hard to find smaller Android phones.
