Htc does a good enough job with its hardware-software combo. Sony does have an edge over the HTC in terms of camera and eventually picture quality but you do lose out on the quicker update cycle that HTC has. Its a trade-off that u need to decide upon.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

I am in search for an upgrade to my 2 y old HTC one x plus. My prime needs are
1. Good resolution camera
2. It should read all the docs like chm/pdf/word/excel docs.
3. 32GB HD
I have the following as my options
1. iPhone 6 - Sadly there is no 32 GB option
2. Moto turbo - Reviews are average
3. HTC One M8
4. Nexus 6
Please guide me for the best phone available.

LG G4? I have a LG G3 and extremely happy with the phone. Just checked out G4 this morning, and the look and feel was awesome. Being and improvement on the G3, it will not be short on features anyway.

Or go with the iPhone 6 64GB as recommended by Phamilyman.

Thinking about Galaxy S5. Any better options?
Don't even bother looking any further than the Z3 compact. Fits your requirements to the T. You just cannot go wrong with this one.

Buying a phone in that price range is similar to the dilemma of Draupadi who wanted everything in a single man as husband and ended up having five .

Moto turbo from the above is the best piece of machinery barring Iphone (which I cant recommend due to my personal dislike towards its closed ecosystem)

Another phone that you can look at is Note 4 which is the best thing Samsung has ever come up with. Worth mentioning is that fact that it is a super performer as well without lag (for a change).

LG G4 is also worth considering.

Be wary of the Z3 compact. My motherboard burnt out and now I'm waiting for them to take 10 days to repair. As an aside, Sony service is pathetic. I fought for a while to prove that a phone bought from Croma is a legit, in-warranty device.

How does the HTC 13 MP camera compare to the Moto X 2014 or the Galaxy S4/S5?
Way bigger sensor in S5/S6? Common, look a this: http://connect.dpreview.com/post/438...ureview-review.

Shoot in 5-8MP modes and you get best picture quality from MotoX 2014. Better than likes of Galaxy S5, S6 and Sony Z2, Z3 etc in terms of details. Even Motorola's own phones which have better and bigger sensors like Nexus 6 (16MP) and Moto Turbo (20Mp) produce terrible picture quality compared to MotoX 2014. They come up with heavy water smudge kind of effect (noise filtering algorithm), same like what most other popular mobile cameras do. If you see the landscape pictures taken from these cameras and zoom into the trees, you will know what I mean.

These type of pictures look good at first on tinny mobile screens but you understand when you compare same shots taken from other better equipment which applies lesser software filtering on them.

iPhone 6 has edge in optical image stabilization which is not present in the MotoX otherwise its also an average camera and heavily relies on the ugly water smudge kind of effects in it's 8MP shots to make them look smoother whereas MotoX doesn't do so. Though 13MP shots have some sharpening artifacts in the pictures taken in Moto X 2014 but solution is to captures pictures in 8-5MP modes.

You don't compromise on details if you lower down the resolution. And no, 5MP shots taken from MotoX is not same as a shot taken from native 5MP camera phone, it will have far greater details and far better colors in 5MP images than today's native 5MP camera phones. Find more about this 5MP/8MP theory at here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto...cture-t3140905

Have seen few shots captured on Galaxy S4 and found them good but haven't studied much on that so reserve my final verdict on that.

Not exposed to LG so can't comment about them.

Most of the reviews you find about MotoX are conducted when the phone was on Kitkat. Autofocus in low light was one of major issue during Kitkat but now its on 5.1 and things have drastically changed since then, especially the camera.

Only better pictures I found were taken from Panasonic DMC CM1 and Nokia 808 (or maybe you can include few other Nokias which have camera system similar to 808)

Scroll down to this page without looking at the verdicts, you will find a list of few camera phones with scores: http://connect.dpreview.com/post/728...tphone-cameras

You can download full resolution images taken from different mobile cameras which you should do if you are serious about getting best bang for the buck. But note that MotoX 2014 was reviewed in Kitkat and in 13MP picture modes. 8MP/5MP shots come out better in the Lollipop firmwares compared to 13MP.

Please add Sony Z3 as well. It has fantastic piece of feature pack and all Sony's cutting edge features such as EXmor lens and sound improvements.

And by the way, If you are willing to consider Nexus 6, why not Moto X second gen? Its only 16GB though!

Though the Moto X 2nd gen looks like a great phone on paper, some of it's reviews on Flipkart are scary.

Apparantly the Gorilla Glass is beyond a joke. It cracks when it falls from a two feet height. And it's repair costs Rs.20k.

Check it out here:

I have a MotoX 32 GB. I also used to be feared about same. One day I was enjoying Google Cardboard stuffs but suddenly it slipped from the carboard box from height near to my neck (around 5 feet) onto the hard floor at my home with glass angling towards floor. I got shocked and believed that now the glass must have gone and I will have to bear the cost of repairing.

But to my surprise, there wasn't even a scratch on the glass. Though metal frame has received a very minute scratch at a corner which doesn't come into notice if not looked closely.

To make things clear, there are two exposed bumpers in the both speaker grill areas to add additional protection for the glass. So not easy to break the glass unless its badluck and glass falls and hits directly onto some sharp thing. And if its badluck then all glasses are glasses, they will shatter.

Then second thing Gorilla glass means protection against scratches, not making it some bulletproof thing. I have been using the phone since Dec'14 without any protection to the glass and till date there is not a single scratch on it. Its touch response is smoothest in class.

And about the paper, MotoX series is not about paper specs, its about innovations, simplicity and user experience. All other phones feel dumb-phones in front of a MotoX as far as user experience is concerned. Period. More I am using it, more I am falling in love with it. Someday give a chance to a MotoX to believe how good it is.

I have shared my completely different experience in contrast of the 'scary' review you are referring to. How would you scrutinize authenticity of that/those 'scary' reviews?

Motorola deserve much more respect than what they usually have had, especially for the reason that they are the one who created Mobile industry.

Completely agree.

I myself am using a Moto E first gen, that I purchased on the day it was launched. I had to get the motherboard replaced for it as it had a random restarting problem. Thankfully my phone was still under warranty then so didn't have to pay anything. Since then, zero issues. Love the bloatware free android.

The only problem I have with it is that the internal memory is only 4 GB, due to which I cannot install many apps. Also, the camera is not too great.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Hi Gadget Gurus, I am looking for a phone under 20K for my wife. Below are the specifications I am looking at:

1. Camera(Front & Back) - No compromise on this one, if I want my food on time.
2. Space(32 GB expandable should be fine)
3. Decent Processor. She is not much into gaming or other high end stuff.
4. Sturdy, her phones enjoy free falls almost every day.
5. Decent after sales & service.
6. Android

Not sure If I am asking for too much under 20K. Please suggest.

Not sure if either Moto X 2015 or OnePlus Two will be below 20K looking at the prices of their previous generation phones.
