I think because it was mentioned in more then a couple of threads, I thought I should start a thread on Apple Computers, many of the t-bhpians who use these machines can share knowledge, troubleshoot and reccomend software to fellow users. And if there are some windows users out there who are thinking of switching we should be able to help them out as well.

Let me start I own a Aluminium iMac 20" and a MacBook Black (last gen)





About more then a year ago I shifted to Mac by buying a iMac and there has been no looking back ever since. Everything is so much better. Bought the MacBook as well but hardly used it till a couple of days back. I am absolutely happy with Apple's service because I had a fault in the iMac in a couple of months of buying it and it was replaced no questions asked. Since then I've invested in a 500GB Time Capsule as well. I didnt like the new unibody MacBook's and never had the use for a MacBook Pro. Am looking at picking up a AIR in the near future for the absolute portability.

Oh and did I mention these things look fantastic and have amazing snob value as well. And if anyone here is going to ask about installing Windows on their mac's they will get flamed. Its just wrong. Please dont ever do it. 

What is the snob value?

As in what does the word mean?

Snob value is like people would look at it, check it out. Just like any exotic car or bike. As these things arnt common as the Dell's and Gateways of the lore. They stand out. And the design is a class apart.

Oh ok.
Now I get it.
So you carry your desktop around or invite people to come home and check it out.

Please elaborate. How is a Mac better than say a Dell, apart from the subjective eye-candy factor? I get the feeling people by them for "other" reasons you mentioned - rarity, snob value, coolness factor and so on, rather than for performance, convenience or ease of use. Presumably VFM is too trivial an aspect to be considered for buying a Mac.

@quickdraw: Chill. I just hate these iMacs.
As an application developer working on predominatnly Windows and Linux machines. Standarization of code on iMacs is such a pain.
The button would look different, the menu will be in a different colour.
You name it, it will do it differently.

I like to look at MACs but it stops there, I have worked on them & I didnt like it.
We had an iMac (like the one posted by quickdraw but 4 years ago)in our lab & it was the most problematic piece of machinery in our entire lab(which had some of the best hardware one could think of at that time).

However we also had an older mac(see below) which worked with lesser issues.

1. Sheer quality of materials - they're long lasting and feel solid. Great fit and finish, so to say :D

2. Performace is great. Even a mac with relatively low specs works the way you'd want it to. You switch it on and all the apps work instantly. The loading time virtually non existent when compared to windows.

3. Ease of use. Simple things that make working easier. Example - Spaces. When you have many things open on a small screen (laptop) working is smooth thanks to spaces. It's like having several screens at the touch of a button.

4. Nearly no virus's out there.

@ quickdraw: I'm a huge mac fan.
I have a imac 20" and a macbook air and even use the airport extreme. Great products - but as with everything else a lot of haters who haven't used them with an open mind.

I just connected External Hard drives to my extreme and use it as a time capsule - it's cheaper and the hard disk can be expanded any time!

I just purchased the Apple Macbook Pro 15" 2.53 GHz 2 days back.

Mac isnt just about the build quality and the looks... the best thing about it is the OS thats come with it.... windows any version isnt even close.

Speaking of comparison... Its engraved in the Tech Bibles of OS's about how Microsoft has stolen Bits and Pieces from Mac OS to Built their first GUI OS *.

And We all know the History Repeats itself…
From Windows 95, Xp , Vista....Windows 7....And god knows what will come next.
But I’m sure that it'll be only after Mac comes out with another Butt Kicking OS.

Just my 2 Bits, i'm a true Mac Lover,but yet to by my First Mac.

agreed, OSX is more stable than windows XP and Vista [windows 7 i don't know too much about], but Microsoft didn't steal the concept of the GUI from Apple.

Just a clarification.

Both Apple and Microsoft lifted it from XEROX. They developed the first GUI, but felt it had no future. or something like that.

True ! But wasn't that only for a Concept called Mouse. or was it the whole GUI...

But Anyways i'm sure you get my Drift. ;)
