Thats was the general idea.

Spending 70k on things that you may like or not like is completely unacceptable.

But trying something like this and buying after being sure is the way to go.

In my experience with some HP models(6110,6310,6130,6710b) and compaq v3000, iatkos is the best solution. the updates also happen well. the drivers are well detected as well. the new version also has some stunning 3d looks, so i am told my my team mate.

also, don't just blindly follow the hcl list. many models are not mentioned. they need to be contributed as well. Oops, I need to get my guy to check whether our experiments are updated.

one note.. hackintosh likes nvidia but not ati

As some of you are aware. I had atleast three nvidia+AMD based Cpaq v3000(3115AU to be precise) and Acer . Since getting mobo for them from HP is next to impossible. I decided to strip them of parts and throw the rest and save precious cupboard real estate.

I just realized they all had PCIX mini wifi cards. First I installed RA link based card on the dell. Its was not even detected on XP hence it was definitely conked along with the motherboard.

Next was Compaq. This had broadcom netlink based card. Installed and booted and Bingo! Leopard detected it as Third Party Wifi Card.

Hence the conclusion:
Broadcom Netlink that is found in most Compaq. Especially AMD based V3115 AU is natively supported.

SirAlec, that is correct. Most broadcoms are pretty much supported.

watch out for the 10.5.7 and 10.5.8 updates. quite a few things break after the update.

The usb recoonect wake up after hibernation is an issue.
the computer goes to hibernate upon boot up.
airport wireless module is broken in 10.5.8. But apple has released a patch which detects the native Macs before installing:Frustrati

has one tried installing retail version of macosx on pc ? does it work.. may be with little tweaks?

indie,
the story would not be very different.

see, its like this: Apple makes specific models with specific components which will work very well. But in the PC world, there are hundreds of permutations and combinations of processor, graphics, wireless chips. So driver for those components is always going to be a workaround with a generic or retrofitting another card driver. In a way, apple is like a fixed item udupi eatery shop. They can do those x number of items well. But can they also make chilli manchurian or paneer tikka masala? Maybe

Can we attempt the same to install from a pen drive?

there is already a project called iportable snow from long back.

Will hackintosh work on a celeron 900 2.2Ghz?

I recently upgraded my lappie from 256 MB RAM to 1.3 GB RAM and hard disc to 160 GB. Please guide me if I can install Macintosh OS on my lappie?

Hi SirAlec,

I have an Acer Aspire 4736 (specs -Acer Aspire 4736 specs - gdgt ), will the DIY mentioned on first post work for me also, I read through a lot of posts on insanelymac forum and also on hackintosh forum but I could not get an answer.

Also, we need to select the best comptabile options for out laptop so do you have any suggestions as to which options are the best for my laptop.

Thanks a lot in advance.

For Hackintosh, the most important parameter is the MB. And, also Intel processors can be easily configured when compared to AMD.
