I bought a 2GB MP3 player from Transcend for my wife, and while she has been quite happy with it, using it as a music player, i find that any attempts to modify the data on it are a real pain.

Issue is that even for copying a set of songs or even a set of files/movies on or off the device takes ages, and frustrates the hell out of the user.

Is there anything that can be done to speeden up the read/write time of the device, or am i supposed to just put up with it?

I initially thought all Transcends were like this, but noticed that the pen drives have reasonable Read/Write times. It seems its only the MP3 player versions which suffer from this problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. : We have had no other problems with the device, for the close to 2 years we have been using it.

Ever tried using another transcend player ?? I don't think it is that much painful. May be you were using a lemon.

My experience with Transcend.
I have a Transcend T Sonic 630 1GB player.
It hangs up occasionally while browsing some mp3s. FM reception is very poor. Earphones that came with the thing have low quality, so i am using EP 630s.
Response is very slow and it takes ages to recharge via USB.

Only thing good about it? - Its cheap as hell and reasonably reliable.

T.sonic 630 Vs 610 - TechEnclave

that would be expected :p

the 610 has a 1MBps transfer rate

What USB port do you use for transfer.

Coz my comp has USB 1.0 at the front and USB 2.0 at the back. While the Transcend Pen drive works well on both, i find the USB 1 a pain when connecting some other devices.

OMG.. looks like Transcend players are born lemons. 1MBps is drastic, even my office boy's Chinese player's transfer is better than this.

LOL, thats slower than some internet connections. but their pen drives are pretty quick, whats the transfer rate on those like? I have a 8GB Pendrive.

Seems to be quite reliable, as of now. It hasnt ever hung so far, but the browsing for files isnt fast, for sure.

Earphones, wifey is fine with the original set.
Charging time is high, i feel.

I use USB 2.0 for transfer, but still not of much use regarding the speed of data transfer.

Between this is the device :

yup, about the transfer speed, nothing can be done. About the browsing speed, dont fill the thing up to full capacity. About the random crashes. reflash the firmware and format the data area (using the utility that comes with the player) once in a while.

you can use a motorola mobile phone charger to charge it

the player itself is quite rugged and reliable :)

the speeds on their pen drives vary based on model. same thing for the mp3 players

but yes. pen drives are faster then the mp3 players

1) MP3 players cannot match the speed of Pendrives.

2) V30 series from Transcend is the slowest one. Its slower than competition also. Its the V10 series that is quite good and its sometimes better than competition.

is the new firmware available. chek if it helps after upgrading.

@Greenhorn : Are you aware of any firmware releases like SirAlec has mentioned above?

Visit the support site for firmwares.

Welcome to Transcend Website

Even if there isnt a new firmware out, an occasional format and reinstall of the firmware using the supplied utility usually helps. Just like you would with windows on a regular PC :D

I bought a Transcend T.sonic 610 2GB mp3 player Ver 3.3 on 2006. Here is my experience-
1. Nice shape and size.
2. Good accessories - carry case, two stings, hand band, Two USB connectors etc.
3. Initialization takes long 27.12 secs to start the device
4. Very slow software, takes 4.08 secs to shuffle from one song to other.
5. Awfully bad FM radio reception.
6. Sound quality is ok.
7. Has a voice recorder too, but again quality is an issue.
8. Replaceable battery.
9. Battery takes years to get fully charged.
During late part of 2006 there was very few mp3 players were available in the market in reasonable price (iPod's were costs too high that time). Because of it's sluggish software I was getting frustrated every time I use it. In 2008 I got a all new Apple iPod Nano 8GB and now I use the Transcend T.sonic 610 2GB mp3 player in my Sony ICE with aux cable.
