Only issue is i dont find too many free software for it. Even Skype is not available for it.

I have just joined a yahoo group where in you can find all the softwares for your p990i inlcluding skype and yahoo. Infact my friend made a voip call the other day using WiFi on his P990i !!! He is the same guy who has started this group...

And hows the battery ?
Any idea how much is this in bangalore this time?

The handwriting recognition software is very good in this but for taking a quick note you can use the scribble. You write down on the screen in your own handwriting and then save it as it is :D
Battery life is Ok... with normal usage it will not last you more than two days. But the best part is that you can buy a bigger battery for it. Read it on a site that SE wanted to put 1120 mAh battery in the phone but couldnt because it wasnt developed fully so they had to do with a smaller one a 950 mAh. When you open the battery cover you will see there is an inset sticker inside of the battery cover, to sort of hold the battery in place since the space is there for a bigger battery.

Yes,even I would highly suggest SE warranty ....I bought my SE P990i in Oct 2006,and I've been upgrading the firmware at home regularly,as and when available..
Well, but just 1 week back,I had to give it in for warranty repairs for :
1.Camera Shutter button intermittently not functioning at times
2.Flip keypad keys 4,5,6 not working
3.Battery charger connector problem..intermittently charging is stopped(loose connection?)
4.Battery life reduced to around 60% of original life when cell was brand new

It's been about a week since I've given it for warranty repairs..and the service center tell me it'll take more time, because they are going to replace system connector as well as flip keypad..and these are out of stock..
They have already repaired the camera shutter button and replaced the battery and charger.
So,guys, whoever buys new P990i or as a matter of fact even P1i..please opt for SE Warranty..it'll be very much worth it..

Cheers,
-sr

I would NOT buy a P990 today. SE has discontinued supporting it and will not release any new firmware for it. SE claims the phone is as bug free as possible. You are warned.

Navin... where did you got this information from?

I never knew p990 is discontinued. SE models last for really long. T610 was available for more than 5 yrs i guess.

Please read carefully Navin said that the support is discontinued, not the phone. Which means that they will not be developing new software versions/updates for the phone, it doesn't mean that they stopping sales of the same.

even the phone has been discontinued...they are getting rid of the remaining stock.SE is planning to launch the p1,p990i's successor.
so doesnt make sense in buying the p990i anymore.

Got myself a P1i .Several bugs in P990 is repeated!!!But overall good value and definitely would be great after the first fw upgrade.

I'd heard the same too -- that SE has officially signed off on the p990i as far as further firmware updates are concerned. I'd read this on some symbian-related website or a blog (engadget, most likely).

yes P990i is no more available at the leading shops in kolkata. went to buy a P990i and after visit to 4-5 big shops, I had to settle for a P1i. Nice phone, but a bit on the higher end of my budget.

Good News... P990i product support will continue till the phone is bug free and has all the features as stated in the specifications white paper. Came accross this news on developer forums on sonyericsson website.

See this:
Community Support : SE to stop develloping firmware for ...

Yes, I understand the same P990i has the support on and if you have been folloiwng SE have been releasing the firwares regularly.

I own a p990i with blackberry connect and after the I have upgraded the firmware to R9F011 (before 2 months) many bugs are gone. Post this there have been other firmware released which is similar to p1i.
