Based on the advice of ROC, I have finally decided to throw the HTIB and go for this:
1. Marantz SR5600 at 35K
2. Morduant Short Avant 900i series (5 speakers+1 subwoofer) at 36K
3. Installation, cabling and OFC at 6K.
Wow that was quite a bit of price off what they had quoted earlier :-).

At sec 18 Noida where you have Dominos , go inside tha lane along with dominos you'll find RPM on ur right side , there's this AV shop on the first floor. He has some Marantz and Harman kArdon setups.
Then there's another shop at the Metropolitan mall in gurgaon , he also has some marantz setups.
Hope this helps. all the best!! |
The Home audio scene in Delhi is unfortunately dead becasue of most retail outlets forced to shut down becasue of ceiling. There are a few outlets in the malls liek A2V in City select and a few dealers here and there but most only sell exotic ( + 200K stuff ) .You will I fear need to source your purchases from outside delhi.
Some shops/brnads ( Non Exotic ) whch have opned outlets recently in delhi are:
Cambridge Audio - CR Park ( So i hear )
Mordaunt Short - Sharda Motors ( Malviya Nagar area on Outer ring road )
A2V -City Select Saket - (B&W,Onkyo, etc etc etc)- ( the non -exotic stuff )
Guys please add to these if you know about any shops.
After some research (no legwork), I did find some dealers dealing in imported A/V in Delhi/NCR. Some include:
1. FX Entertainment
2. Sharda in Khan Market
3. Rhythm Corner in S-Extension.
4. Sight and Sound in East of Kailash
They do sell exotic (and highly expensive stuff), but I could get the spec. recommended by ROC (listed above) at a price, which I could stretch to.

Can you let us know which brands each of these shops carry. Would be helpful.
All have websites which can be seen through google search. Sharda is Sharda Pro Acoustics. They have generally all major imported brands that you can think of, of course at substantially higher prices, but also subject to substantial discounting. What you see on the website may only be a partial listing. Call them and find out. Most have contact phones.
whcih brands does sight and sound keep? I could not find any web sites for it.
For Sight and Sound, try 9810339238. They keep Denon, Polk, among others.

They also keep Onkyo.
Got the following e-mail quotes.
Monitor Audio BR2 - 25200 (pair)
Monitor Audio BR5 - 45000 (pair)
Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 - 12500/- (pair)
Wharfedale SW 150 - 17500/-
NAD C325 BEE - 25000/-
NAD C352 - 33250/-
Cambridge Audio 640A V2 - 24300/-
Do these prices look ok? How much of bargaining scope do they offer, if at all?
Wharfedale prices are okay and so is the CA. The rest are majorly bloated. I know someone who bought the BR2 for 18.5k.
He got it for 18.5k from audiopeople itself :-). So you know the extent to which you can bargain.
I don't know what is Pre-amp and why it is used?
what is a difference between a pre-amp and regular amp?
It would be great if some one can tell me about it or link will help too.
@25.2k and 18.5k for BR2 now this difference is something.
A regular amp is an integrated amp(for stereo) or receiver(for multi-channel). In a Pre - Power setup, the preamplifier and power amplifier are housed in separate chassis. In the extreme case one can have monoblock power amplifiers for each individual channel.
The preamplifier essentially allows you to switch between various inputs/sources for audio and also performs the job of initial voltage amplification (typically 12dB-24dB) and feeds this signal to the power amplifier.
The job of the power amplifier is simple... take the input of the preamp and perform current amplification to drive the speakers.
