Better to go in with official seller.

BTW they too offer discounts periodically.

Thanks! Will pass on this then I guess. Have to keep a lookout for discounts at amazon.

If yes then I want to buy it as I am getting it at Rs.5078 after discounts.

Amazon.in offers discounts of around 1K on basic kindle periodically. Like skdking suggested, I would also recommend waiting and purchasing from Amazon.in when there's a discount available. The ones on paytm or ebay can be older versions or have some other issues. From amazon, you can be sure to get the genuine product.

If someone is travelling from the US ask them to pick the kindle. There are refund programs for old kindle. Imagine i sent my 49 dollar kindle back, got 39 dollar refund, a 25 dollar gift coupon and i spent a delta to get the Paperwhite new for 99 dollars.

The old kindle i got it like 4 years back :). Totally worth it. You can check this option if someone has an old kindle and can do a trade in.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. This is the reason I love Team Bhp, always available for help.
@Jonsnow: Yes I am now checking amazon every now and then.
@VW2010: Wow! you got a great deal. Will ask around if anyone in my circle if planning to go or come from US in the near future.

Thanks!

Just an FYI, please don't buy books through your kindle, the netbanking/debit card method is having some issue. The helpline said so, after my purchase didn't go through. Some money of mine is currently in limbo.

The simplest thing in the world is to buy and keep a prepaid Amazon e gift card in your account.
And keep using the value therein to buy your kindle books!

Facing issues with my Kindle paperwhite.

1. 22 Feb 2015: Bought a Kindle old generation device - non touch
2. Faced display issues (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadget...ml#post3663782). The display issue deteriorated so much that parts of screen became unsable
3. 7 May 2015: Raised complaint, Amazon ran out of stock of old gen Kindle and sent me Paperwhite as a replacement (with a new order number)
4. This "new" paperwhite, today retains battery charge for 2 days only (no usage, no wi-fi). Raised a complain.
5. Amazon says that warranty is not applicable since the date I made the purchase is more than 12 months old from today.

Wouldn't there be any warranty applicable on the Kindle Paperwhite sent in May 2015?
The support guy had no answer for this.
Can someone on this thread please help me?

Those of you who own pre-2014 Kindle don't forget to update it by March 22nd.

Dear customer,

Your Kindle Keyboard (3rd Generation) requires an important software update to continue downloading e-books and using Kindle services.

This important update applies to Kindle e-readers released prior to 2014. Visit our Help page for a complete list of impacted devices: https://www.amazon.in/ku2016?ref_=deveng_eicert

Follow these steps to receive the update:

1. Plug your Kindle in to charge during the update.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi.
3. From the Home screen of your Kindle, select Menu or tap the Menu icon. Then choose Sync and Check for Items.
4. Leave your Kindle connected to both power and Wi-Fi overnight, or until the update is complete.

The software update will download and install automatically, even if your device is asleep. Your device may restart multiple times during the update process. You will get a final confirmation letter on your device when the update is complete, which can be found in your Kindle Library.

If you do not update the device software by March 22, 2016, you will no longer be able to access Kindle services or get the update via connecting to a wireless network. To resume access, you will need to manually update the software on your Kindle. Please visit our Help page for more details on how to update automatically: www.amazon.in/ku2016?ref_=deveng_eicert

New flagship Kindle coming next week.

Amazon has reduced the kindle price again in the Indian market. Paperwhite comes down by 2000 and the basic kindle by 1000.
This again might be for few days like they have done earlier.
Paperwhite WiFi now available for 8999/-

For anyone who is suffering battery charge retention issue, please check the temperature at your place.

Pune was/is witnessing high day time temperatures (>35 deg C) - especially when I raised the complaint. I am 100% sure that was causing the rapid battery discharge.

Now with the room cooled and maintained <30 deg C, I see a good retention duration!

Looks like the Amazon guys themselves don't know this.

catch 22 or just pure greediness - was waiting for prices to come down to buy the paperwhite and now with new one coming next week, the mind says wait a little more. Should I?

8th generation Kindle to be released next week, while my 5+ year old 3rd Generation Kindle + cover with inbuilt light is still working flawlessly.

Talk about robust quality, stability & support.

In my opinion, if a current gen Kindle is available at good price, it is a good bargain.
I had purchased a previous gen Kindle (which has slightly less resolution than the current gen Kindle Paperwhite) - however in practical sense, it is absolutely great and low resolution is not an issue at all.
If you have any idea about some futuristic and very user-friendly features in next gen Kindle - then you may wait, else current gen Paperwhite is absolute gem in my opinion and at 8999, it is a good buy

JLS

Thanks JLS. I meant wait for paperwhite to go down further stupid:

The voyage has little incremental value over the paperwhite. with the advent of a new one, there will be discounts on voyage too but not too keen on them, was thinking if paperwhite will go down further.

your advice seems right, just that the mind tells to wait for better deal.

Not sure if Amazon will reduce it any further. From what I have seen for the last 1 year or so, they keep reducing it to 9000 for few days and then take it back to the original price. Heard some news that the new kindle is going to be a replacement for voyage and Paperwhite will still be there.

You can try paytm to buy paperwhite, they have 8% cashback on top of 8999/-
