Otimus P500 have both Integrated GPS and Assisted GPS with amazing speed
Got a Galaxy Tab from the gulf region. Since it had some region specific useless stuff i loaded the OE firmware for India using some google. Working aok now but the sync utility says, this firmware update is not supported.
Is it a big issue?
Also is there a way to make the android not pull all my gmail contacts etc, while using the id for apps like market place??

Jaggu, what you can do is go to Settings > Accounts and synch settings. There you can disable Auto synch and also background data (default it will be selected, de select the same) this will take care of the Gmail and contacts synch.
Else, you can Go to settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and disable the 'Data enabled' option. The drawback of this is since it will disable your data connectivity not just your gmail /contacts and even your browser wont work.

I was like :Shockked: on seeing your post. Our hero JK was a dare devil to do these tweaks/h**ks within no time. What happened? I still gracefully remember the time of Shellsocks during 90's where VSNL was providing 2 types of a/c's for browsing.

There are 2 types of GPS system available in smart phones, according to their function
1. Stand alone GPS module
GPS operation use radio signals from satellites alone
2. Assisted GPS (A-GPS)
A-GPS additionally uses cellular network resources to locate and navigation. They can improve the startup performance like initial satellite lock.

Rather than completely turning off sync or data as mpksuhas has suggested, you could
just turn off contact syncing.
Settings > Accounts & Sync > (click on your gmail account) > Uncheck "Contacts"
Keen to hear your views on Tab vs Ipad after you've used it for a while.

I think almost all of the phones have A-GPS. Connection to internet is only required at the start-up to achieve a quick lock to the gps satellites. Otherwise, locking may take up to 12 minutes.

Having both the feature in the phone translate into very effective, fast and smooth navigation capabilities.

Why would anyone want to buy this over the Desire HD except perhaps for the AMOLED screen.
