today i'll install this ownhere version of google maps from xda for world navigation.
i still wonder how "mayankk" is having world navigation enabled in stock maps app. may be because of custom rom he is running. |
The rom chef didnt bake the maps in.
In fact, he stripped almost EVERYTHING, as bloatware.
G-apps had to be flashed seperately.
maps was downloaded from the market.
As far as navigation goes, I can tell you this: Indian road names and locations confuse the hell out of the google lady, and what she comes out with confuses the hell out of me.
So i mute her.
I only use it against the std gmaps for the dynamic rerouting.

Understood your procedure as i did this in my old htc wildfire, flashed CM ROM. but at that time also to enable world navigation i had to flash brut / ownhere custom maps file as stock maps didn't have navigation.
the question which still remains unanswered is that what makes your stock google maps navigation run in India and not ours.:Frustrati
probably google loves you too much lol:

Gotto agree with Nicky that google loves you too much. Unless i do the custom map updated i dont think stock comes with Navigation option in Chennai region as well.

Isn't the thread for the hacked version of google maps closed on XDA? I don't have a copy of the last hacked apk. Didn't save it. But if you have it or if its available online somewhere, can you point me to it? I am desperately missing it!

I use this maps version ^
But, what I see is - the magnetic-sensors go for a toss - when I switch to these maps ( which can navigate me through Bangalore :p ).
Also - multi touch doesnt work well.
The stock gmaps - is fine with magnetic sensor & multitouch also!
Meh!
Ace.
P.S. I had come here to ask about a Gallery -vault kinda app. ( but that's already answered! )
Thanks!
Rovio's new game "Amazing Alex" is now available in Google Play. I just downloaded it. Cool game. You will have to pay for the full version.
For all XUV500 owners with android devices there is a XUV500 app released and is available in the play store. Type XUV500 and click search in the play store to install the app. Some pics of the app options below
one more good news for Defy owners.
Quarx has released alpha ROM of Jelly Bean 4.1.1 for Defy/+on XDA.
Full HWA & wifi working. But no camera & radio/ gsm phone support yet.
But it just proves how awesome Defy is as it does support JB despite locked bootloader.
Cheers.. :)
Sony Xperia Go available for pre-order at 18,999.
Sony Xperia Go: Price in India, Reviews, Specification: Flipkart.com
IMHO, the price is a bit on the higher side for what it offers. Would have gladly paid 19k if this came with front camera and better display resolution. But keeping in mind these 2 drawbacks, the price should have been lesser by 2k.
This make the Defy plus look real VFM.

Settled for S Advance........
Gifted it away today morning! |
UPDATE: Samsung Galaxy S Advance problems.
Looks like SG S Advance has some signal loss issues. Pretty random but happens at least once in 5-6 days. Once it goes into this mode; it doesn't connect to anything, not to wifi, not to network.
A restart usually fixes this problem.
The person I gifted to; has been asking around; and has located couple of other Galaxy S Advance users who face the same issue.
If any of you are aware of such an issue; and a solution to that; do share.
I kinda feel bad for having gifted away such a phone to a person who depends a lot on phone; being 'available' when clients reach out.
I have suggested that he report to Samsung service center and check if they have released a software update. (Hopefully that is some software issue).

HTC One X Grey/Brown available for 29999 for today (and tomorrow?) only. I got mine from them in white 2 weeks ago and am in love with it.
Am also interested in getting a Samsung Galaxy Note. Missed the deal for 27k..anyone know where the next best price is? 32700 is available easily everywhere, Sulekha doing for approx 30500 but without a Micro SD card and flip cover.
What say guys? Cheers.
I am not sure if this is a known news already.
Samsung has released ICS update for Galaxy S2.
One of my friend was updating it today but as his Broadband/wifi was down, he had to wait for long time for this update to get completed over 2G network, will be meeting him tomorrow to see how it went through.

ICS 4.0.3 was released for Samsung GS2 last month and i have been using it since then.Though i feel its got some issues as phone was working better with GB 2.0.3.I doubt if your friend would have succeeded in updating with 2G speeds.
