Thanks a lot for the input. I was a little scared because currently I am using a nokia 6500 slide. And I tend to be little rough on the keys while messaging lol:
So then I will gladly go ahead with my first smartphone clap:
Looks like i made mistake getting Galaxy 3, thinking Samsung will update to 2.2 soon. Now both Optimus and Wildfire getting updated to 2.2, Galaxy3 users are left in cold by samsung.

One of better things about the Android platform is that your are less fettered. If Samsung will not give you updates, you can get them from others. See this link:-

Hi Guys,
My first android phone was the Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700, which led me to Android madness.
Now I present to you guys my first website
http://www.androidnews.co.in
The website is all about Android News, app updates, hacks and mods, ports etc.
Basically news which maters to Indian Android users.
Feedbacks are welcome.
Mods please delete the post if found as considered marketing.
Got myself a HTC Wildfire for the new years and i'm doing nothing else but reading online forums to solve the problems it has.
It runs on android 2.1.Here's a list of problems
1) Doesn't send text messages , says "Unable to send text message after multiple attempts"
2) Doesn't connect to my wifi , says "Obtaining Ip address " and get's stuck after that.
i'm really irritated and don't know what to do, can anybody please help me out?

I have no long term experience of using touchscreens for texting. But I have noticed our uncanny ability to adjust to even the most inconvenient keypads with some practice.
I also have very similar concerns. It would be great if any Swype users could compare virtual and physical keypads.
Buying a phone can be almost as bad as buying a car, if not worse! At least you know something about cars. :P |
@EssYouWe, I installed Swype on the Optimus One today. It works very well and is a much easier way of typing after spending a few minutes with it. We need to turn off auto-correction etc so that Tamil/Hindi words can be typed without hassle. I will definitely be using it for my texting. Swype also has a good voice recognition system that recognizes common words well, but has problems with bigger/less-frequently-used words. That's kinda ok I guess, I can speak out my whole sentence and correct only the wrong words.
As to how this compares with a physical keyboard: Well, I always found the physical keyboard slowest to type on. The reason is, you have to push each button down and not just touch it. That requires time and effort. If you get used to an iPhone's touchscreen, nothing comes close to that speed. Because, there are no moving parts involved. I have to say, I still haven't reached this speed in OptimusOne (because of the smaller on-screen "keys" I guess).
But that's just me. If anyone is very used to typing on a physical QWERTY keyboard, they should definitely spend at least 10 to 15 minutes typing on a touchscreen keyboard - and Swype - before deciding if it is their kind of thing.
Slightly OT: One friend went for iPhone after testing it in office, but he sold it off later because he finds it inconvenient to user on the move - stop the bike, pull out the phone, type a quick "OK" message with one hand, and keep moving. So, it really depends on the type of usage.
Guys !!! Any feed back on GALAXY 551. Today I had been to Spice Mobile shop in Koramangala. And surprisingly I saw this mobile. The price also seems to be Ok... Rs. 12600. I need an immediate phone replacement.
Thanks ...

Yes. Galaxy 551 is 256MB RAM and has a resolution of 240 X 400, which is something of a rare resolution. You will find very few phones with this resolution, so many apps may not be compatible with this resolution. This was a deal breaker for me.
LG Optimus One (costing around 12 to 13000 in shops, 11500 on eBay) on the other hand has a more or less standard resolution of 320 X 480. This resolution is found in many phones, so most of the apps are compatible with it. Also it has 512 MB RAM as against the Galaxy 551's 256 MB.
Also, I've been using the Optimus One for ten days now and am very, very satisfied with it. The only downside is that LG has been too lazy to include a PC suite and USB driver CD (wonder why!), so these have to be downloaded. Other than that, I haven't seen any downside.
So Optimus One is much better, unless the QWERTY keyboard is very important for you.
A side note: Sony Xperia X8 might have been a competitor too, but its very low RAM of 168MB breaks the deal.
Here's a comparison:

Iam using HTC legend but have never faced these problems. Just try to re-install the battery again and then reset the phone to factory settings.
Also look for any software update available for your phone.

Guess you had a look at M20.
