How to write a copy protected CD/DVD?

Hi,

Posting this on behalf of a friend. He is into music business, I mean he composes tunes, etc etc. He wants to copy protect the CDs that he pass around.

I know, if there was sure-shot way, the music industry today should be raking millions. But what he is looking for is, to stop an average joe from just popping his CD into a lappy and making a copies of his tunes.

Any suggestions, ideas?

I think, had it been a software, we could have got some level of encryption with the installer, or something like that, but with Music CDs, it has to play in the CD players at the auditions at the same time if one just tries a normal CTRL+C & CTRL+V it should not work.

Thanks!!

The average Joe goes on the Internet to find the songs. Or if the average Joe has bought his own CD, then he should have a right to copy the tunes on his own hard disk.

I side with you spinnerr. I have over 800 dvds and a great collection of music as well. I've lost many a friends who wanted to borrow my movies and music to take a local dump, when I refused. Reason? number 1: I don't support piracy. number 2: I've spent over 5 lakhs in accumulating all that over the last 10 years! Hence I always wanted to work on some copy protection so that I can lend them to friends for them to hear alone. But then, there are more softwares in market which break encryptions!
So I gave up the idea and just politely tell my friends how much I spent in procuring these. So some of them walk out thinking I'm a cheap guy (wow. I spend lakhs in buying them and the person who wants it free thinks I'm cheap!)
Anyway coming to your requirement, try checking this link

Ditto here. In my case, in addition to CD/DVDs its books too. Sadly thats what the people think who want to share everything you have without spending anything of their own. BTW you seem to have a huge collection.

IMO any software can at the most make the task difficult of copying not prevent copying. You can try this link. There are some softwares listed:-
