And so, i have successfully sideloaded my Playbook *after* the software update. Working fine till now. |
It would be very helpful if you could help us with the following questions-
1. Does video chat work on Skype Beta?
2. Does GPS work on Latitude? It doesn't work in my case. Plus my Latitude app icon is also different from yours.
Here are few suggestions for you-
1. Turn off Bluetooth if you don't use it. It eats quite an amount of battery.
2. Get Dead Space. It has most stunning visuals.
3. I don't know if you automatically got TV on the GO app with 2.0.1 update. If not then get it. It is more relevant to Indians.
Enjoy! :)

My Playbook is the earlier version though i really have not tried Skype yet. GPS is not working here too. Got TV on the Go app too.
So far, has been glitch free. Apps work fine.
Anyone knows when the Asus's 250 dollar tablet will be released. This year will be a year of 7 inch tablets I think and they are needed for a wider tablet adoption.
Does anyone know if the Micromax funbook tablet supports Skype video chatting?
Anybody here using Micromax funbook tablet ? Review please.
Rohan
I am looking for a tablet. It will be mainly used for browsing the net and checking emails (Google, Yahoo and so on). It needs to be fast, should have 3G connectivity (of course with a SIM card), should have at least one USB port where I can connect an external keyboard if required. It also should allow me to create/open/edit/manage MS Office documents.
It should be able to do all of this pretty fast. It should be portable, ie. can be carried in a small bag. At the same time the screen should be big enough to not strain the eyes (Need to be able to clearly see about 20/25 emails in one screen). Expected battery life is around 4 hours at least.
Why I am not considering a netbook or a laptop is it's too bulky, the boot times are slower compared to a tablet and there won't be a touch screen.
It seems mostly the tablet will run Android (rest are too pricey or too restrictivce), so I would also like to know if it makes any particular difference if I go for the Honeycomb or the Ice Cream Sandwich.
Price point is around Rs. 20k.

ASUS is always slow in releasing the products. It happened with Prime and will happen with 7" too.
Samsung has released Tab 2 7.0 for $250. It seems like a very good tablet that is just $50 more than Kindle Fire and has more features and ICS out of box.
Have been using HTC flyer since 4 months now. Amazing tablet. Has 3G and HTC sense UI is great. The writing pen is excellent works well to take noes, make remarks on ebook pages. Got if from flipkart at 23.5k. Its one of the best 7inch Tab around.

Looks like the Funbook is selling like hot cakes everywhere.
OR
MM seems to have pulled the plug on the supplies.
In either case, it is sold out on flipkart, letsbuy, saholic etc. Available on Snapdeal , but I dont know how reliable they are, so after entering my credit card details, I decided to not go ahead with the purchase.
When I say reliable, I mean it in the sense that they may show that it is available, but will later refund your money since they cannot honour the deal.

Thanks for the links.
Though a few reviews are available on the internet, I was hoping if a fellow member who owns the funbook writes a small review based on hands-on usage.

Yaar, its good enough. esp brilliant for the price.
Most people don't / can't write proper TBHP car review style articles!
Infact, i am soon planning to buy one for my technophobe 66 year old mother. The only thing it'll be used for, will be the occasional angry birds besides regular skype calls with us to chat with our son.
@sajo: Its both - slow production and red hot sales. Like RED HOT!
Plus, did I mention another REALLY cool thing? Its one of the very few things you can buy in this market, that is MADE IN INDIA!

Thanks again. (I really wish the forum had the thanks button in the shifting gears section as well, even it didn't get counted in the score)
I don't have an immediate requirement, I was just generally interested in the Funbook as it looks amazing VFM.
I would wait for a few months for the demand/supply to even out and some people to write reviews. :)

Ohh...I heard snapdeal is selling them at the rate of 2 per minute. Which is a
lot for an online portal.

Thats news for me. Always assumed it was the rebadged Chinese Ployer Momo9 tablet.
Another thing, if anyone is looking to order a Micromax Funbook,
DO NOT, order it from the official Micromax partner,
ncarry.com. The internet is full of chatter about how bad their service is. The Micromax website will redirect you there, but please do not go ahead with it.
I ordered it, and immediately regretted doing so. So canceled my order after a few minutes. Its been almost a week and I am still to get a refund. Its impossible to reach their call center on most attempts and mails simply go unanswered. The order status on their website shows as "All Items delivered" :Frustrati .
