MM540 Rs 80000

Hi all,

I am planning to buy a MM540 short chassis Fibre Body 1992 model for Rs 80,000. The vehicle has run 40,000 and it looks good. Forget to enquire whether its a 2 WD or 4 WD.

Friends, please let me know whether its a right deal or not.

Dude,

I sold my 1996 model 52k run 540 XD 3P FOR 67K . That was well maintained with a new pain on it.

Think about it....

Dear prkothan:

To the best of my knowledge, the MM540 was available from 1985 onwards and came with only one chassis. That chassis had a 95.5 inch wheelbase. There is no long chassis and short chassis, unless you are calling the Commander hardtop also a MM-540.

Since the vehicle you're considering is a 14-year old vehicle, it is more likely to have 140,000 km than 40,000 km.

Even assuming a paltry 200 km driven per week, which is very low for a diesel MM-540; in 14 years you will have 1,46,100 km.

In general people or organizations who buy diesel Jeeps tend to put a lot of kilometres on them.

I had a 1988 540 4-wheel-drive, from 1988 to 1995. I found it a tough and reliable truck, easy to maintain and would start easily and go anywhere.
However the tub was apt to rust a lot.

The Peugeot 2112 cc engine developing 62 bhp@4500 rpm was too little power for this excellent vehicle even when new.

In 1992, the showroom price on a brand new 2-wheel drive MM540 would have been Rs. 1.75 lakh and the 4-wheel drive would have cost Rs. 2.10 lakh.

Hope my input helps you.

Whoa! If your deal comes through, T-BHP (Ram and Toms in particular) saved you 40K.

I first learned to drive on a MM540. Amazing Jeep my uncles had it long time back. It was a 4WD one. Rs /- 80000 would be a bit high try negotiating ..
