Re: Urban pocket rocket: Maruti WagonR 1.2 vs S-Presso

Just my 2 cents.

If the usage is within City, Then 3 Cyl or 4 Cyl, doesn't make a big difference. Within City, The run-in speed would be around 60 - 70 Kmph maximum.

I would recommend AMT for city usage. Maruti's AMT is more like driving a manual car without Clutch/gear lever usage.

WagorR is certainly Premium and would come around 6.3 Lakhs.
SPresso is Fun to Drive car and would come around 5.3 Lakhs.
Alto K10 VXI would come around 4.3 Lakhs.

So for the same usage pattern, He can save up to 2 Lakhs with Alto K10.

Reason to go with Alto K10.

Small
Peppy
Fun to drive
Within budget
ABS/Airbags (standard)
Can add rear power windows and Touch screen too.

Re: Urban pocket rocket: Maruti WagonR 1.2 vs S-Presso

Sorry for adding to options / confusion but just had a thought; has your friend considered looking for a used Polo?

I know, I know - a new car is a new car and the S-presso is a modern car, with great styling and presence. BUT, the Polo is a very peppy & comfy city driver, with one heck of a safety package. Ref: https://www.rushlane.com/new-vw-polo...-12256041.html

And if you've seen the video of the Polo accident in Hyderabad, its a testament to the car that the (reckless) driver got out of it alive. Ref: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/road-...f-flyover.html (Massive Polo GTI accident in Hyderabad - Falls off a flyover!)

SWIFT Vxi. With some discounts and to add some fun value. It can be a good fiddle for the already existing Honda City, in the garage. Though it’s off the budget.

I will defenitly choose WagonR 1.2 over S-Presso, be it for city use or highways. The refinement and peppiness of the 4 cylinder engine and the space and practicality of WagonR is worth its price.

In my opinion WagonR will be better option than Ignis for city use as this will be the second car.

If budget can be extended, consider Swift.

To throw in a couple of wrenches, I am curious why your friend doesn't include the Tiago and Celerio in this? Tata ownership is pretty much up there with Maruti these days, and both these cars look much better than the WagonR or Espresso in my opinion. All said and done the Tiago appears to be a much better product in its price-range, just two cents.

Why doesn't he check out the new Figo diesel?

Fastest car under 10 lacs, cheap to own (believe me on that), spares are not expensive, and as far as I know, ford must be offering pretty significant discounts to clear out the bs4 stock.

Re: Urban pocket rocket: Maruti WagonR 1.2 vs S-Presso

I would prefer the Tiago over both the cars mentioned. Your friend prefers Marutis for their easy to maintain feature and the Tata service is definitely improving on that front too. Ot feels so much more stylish and cool. The power output is also much higher than the S presso which fails to impress on any front.

Re: Urban pocket rocket: Maruti WagonR 1.2 vs S-Presso

Would like to give an update:

After extensive test drives and taking inspiration from GTO's this thread:

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...-longer-6.html

My friend went in for a Swift VXi bs6

The Swift was the most fun to drive (obviously) and given the fact he would hold the car for a long time, he extended his budget and went for it.

Thanks for all the suggestions here!

Re: Urban pocket rocket: Maruti WagonR 1.2 vs S-Presso

Apart from the above two options, he can have a look at Tata Tiago & Ford Figo as well. Both are from a segment above & are cheap to maintain. If i had to choose between Spresso & Wagon R then i will definitely go with Wagon R because of 4 cylinder engine & space it offers.

Sensible choice

Price difference of 60-70k is nominal in car shopping, especially in EMI terms. Your friend made the right decision.
