What car - Indigo Dicor-XL/Logan/Swift VDi/Getz-CRDi

Hi, Guys,

Sorry Guyz….little lengthy….

I have test driven all three cars. The pros and cons of all are given below. Need your suggestions which car should I zero down on. Presently I have Wagon R LXi using from past 4 ½ years. Should I wait for Getz CRDi to be released and take a decision……I have a budget of 6~7L. But one more problem is if I opt for a swift/getz I will be moving from current hatchback to another hatchback……

LOGAN:
Pros:
1) Space inside is good....looks like can accommodate a lorry.
2) AC is OK.
3) Boot is very spacious....can easily sleep and go.
4) FE is good (12~14 in city with AC) and 16~18 in highway (with ac)

Cons:
1) When AC is on.....no power at all. Actually I had to push the pedal to floor for getting proper pickup on second gear when I was driving around 15kmph.
2) Manoeverability is little hard.
3) Very wide body I feel if not handled properly on city roads, will have more dents/scratches.
4) Clutch & Brakes too hard.
5) A.S.S not so sure and spares availability not so sure.
6) I/P Cluster looks very plain.

INDIGO DICOR-XL.
Pros:
1) Space inside is good.
2) AC is OK.
3) Boot is very spacious....can easily sleep and go.
4) FE is good (12~14 in city with AC) and 16~18 in highway (with ac)
5) Better than Logan in pick up with AC on with 5 people inside.
6) Wood finish on I/P Cluster and steering wheel look good.
7) Manoeverability is OK when compared to Logan.
8) A.S.S might be OK.
9) Has seat height adjusters for FR RH & LH seats.

Cons:
1) When AC is on.....power is not at all sufficient. Actually I had to push the pedal to floor for getting proper pickup on second gear when i was driving around 15kmph.
2) Very lengthy body.
3) Vehicle did not start during my trial ride. We had to push the vehicle and get it started.
4) Odo & RPM meters were not working.
5) Clutch & Brakes too hard.

SWIFT - VDi:
Pros:
1) Good performance/manoeverability.
2) FE is good in city and highways.
3) Comes with ABS (VDi).
4) Power is good. Cannot compare with other hatchbacks.
5) FE is good.

Cons:
1) 7 months waiting period.
2) Space in second row seat is very less.
3) Boot space very small (almost nil).

If you need Sedan you can plan on Logan which is good car for sure with good FE and good space. Once you are used to it you can manage with its size in city not much difference with other Sedans. I feel Logan should be easy to drive compared with Indigo. You can also think about Adventure which is Petrol however along with Indigo and Logan.

Consider Indigo If you want to go with tested and tuned car.

Go with Logan If you are ready to buy newly entered car in the market.

Both are good cars for the price.

If you need Diesel Hatch and can wait for months to buy the car it should be Swift Diesel which is best buy except for cramped space!

About Getz CRDi I am not sure when it will be launched. May be by this year end.

All the best,

Ravi.

if you need a sedan than indigo is the best car you can get in the segment and at that price

if you want a hatch you should wait for the getz crdi as they will price it very close and the swift will have a compititor and which will force the maruti people give cars faster and at discounted price

btw the indigo XL is a long car and it can be difficult to drive in the city or you meant was lx or sx

Why not the basic SX4 ? Just a little higher than the Logan, since you were not impressed with the logan.

I guess he is particular on diesel cars. All choices given are diesels...

I'd say,

pick the Swift DDiS if boot space is not important.

Otherwise if boot is very high priority, Indigo DiCOR XL is the better bet right now.

EDIT: @manikjeet: Getz Prime 1.3 is priced over and above the Swift DDiS. Forget about Getz CRDi prices being any lower than 6L.

When do you need the new car?

If at all you can wait, choose between Getz and Swift. Between them, if looking for space, go for Getz; if looking for performance, looks, better resale and A.S.S., go for Swift (worth the wait).

Moving from one hatch to another should not bother you unless you are looking to boost your ego with a sedan. Hatches are easier to maneouver, handle and park.

However, if you still insist on taking a sedan and choosing only between the Logan and Indigo - AND your buying decision has to be made NOW - go for the tried and tested Indigo. If you are inclined towards Logan, wait for a few months for more feedback to pour in. That wait might be worth it, as you will have a wider choice, along with Getz and Swift.

Why not consider the SWB tata indigo instead of the XL if you are not comfortable with the length of the LWB version.

Also since you are ready to wait for a while then there is the skoda fabia, fusion diesel also in the pipeline for launch this year apart from the getz crdi.
