If Swift is "really bad" about the interior space than 800,Alto, estilo, wagonR,santro are not even worth looking at.
Swift has little less rear leg space as compare to other big hatches ( GETZ, UVA) but front seats are one of the most comfortable and spacious in its class (and thats what you need being a tall guy). Swift is a clear winner in your case. Test drive is comprehensively and then decide.
All the best.

SANTRO - Offer best driving position, I am 5'11 ( 95 KGS ), I work out a lot, The only drawback is when you are built heavily that you push the seat as back as possible ( I do that ) Leaves no space for person sitting behind the passenger. If only you have to drive or 2 ppl in car its fine, IF it is going to have 4 then its a bit small.

hey Bhpian
Is it really true that swift is changing it's engine??
Also is it worth to wait for fabia as i found that it will compete with swift and getz in terms of price?

Santro!!

Santro is the best "city car" IMHO

Has enough leg/head space for tall drivers too. I think it suits your requirements best.

Also since this is your first car, maintenance and running costs will be low if you go for Santro.

However, news is that Santro "might" be phased out soon. I think its too premature to say that considering that its Hyundai's entry level car and unless they can get something for the same price, they won't banish their bread & butter model

If you wish to go for a Maruti, Wagon R is the car. However, I personally hate its boxy design. But thats upto you.

If you can live with the limited low end torque (engine response), then it is swift for you - i am 6 ft tall and feel pretty comfy with Swift and the rear seat comfort is anyday better than Santro. Am not sure about the new WagonR, but I hate old WagonR's bench like rear seats. Swift will be more useful if you get into the highway periodically ...

As far as the driveability is concerned, Santro/WagonR is good for congested city traffic. But you can get used to Swift too and if you are a first time driver, you should be prepared for some minor cosmetic damages initially in case of swift.

For 5 lacs you get...

1. Fully loaded Chevy Spark (1.0LT)
ex. 394875,14074,43440,1000, 4000,=4,57,389
2. Base U-VA (1.2 Base) (AC Power steering, pretty good)
ex. 399488,15040,43945,1000,4000=463473
U-VA 1.2 LS = 509978
3. Swift Vxi
Ex. 427279,13016,47001,2395,4000=493691
4. WagonR Vxi (MET)
Ex. 378277,11643,41611,1890,3500,=436921
15K discounts is being provided.

5. Santro XO
I think it's 4,10,000 on road.

These are B'lore prices, but if you observe carefully...
For chevy vehicles of same ex. show room price, you end up paying almost 3-4k extra to insurance compared to Maruti. The 3.5lacs to 5 lacs is the most exciting one, it's also the segment which is most difficult to make a choice, we are spoilt by choices!!!

Hi from a WagonR owner.

Like everyone suggested, chose between Santro/WagonR. However, i'd suggest you to look at the Swift first.

Reason? I own a WagonR. Its a good car. But Swift is much better and modern. And defenitly a better car compared to Santro/WagonR.

Swift may not be as easy to drive in the city as the Santro/WagonR. But, its only a matter of a month of driving to get used to the dimensions of the Swift. After that, you'll love your decision to have gone for the Swift instead of Santro/WagonR.

Still if you want to go for Santro/WagonR. Take TD of Santro/WagonR/Spark and decide for yourself. Its a very tight segment and its better you decide the car thats suits you the best.

The Chevy UVa is a spacious car and carries a good service package. Considering your height It should be a good bet . Also have a look at the Getz which has good interiors ans is very spacious.

SANTRO is a very good city car, though its dated. If thats not an issue than you cant go wrong with this car. Take a TD of SPARK too before taking your final call.

Varun,
I feel you should go in Maruti Swift. Stretch a little bit if possible and buy a VXi. It will serve your purpose and its a better car than all the B segment ones. I am driving it currently it is giving me around 12.5 in city with full a/c and 16.5 to 17 in highway. Handling in swift is best can take on any car in this regard. As a driver you will have full confidence. I have driven both Wagon R and Santro it can never match upto swift.

I recommend go for Wagon R. Good car with excellent visibility, low on maintenance, good A.S.S and comparitively good resale value.

Go for Chevvy UVA. Good Car. For 5L you can get UVA 1.2 LS. This comes with PS/4PW/tilt stearing. Interiors are 1pt better than base model.

Even I would suggest the Chevvy UVA. Its a really nice car for the price. Also please stay away from Swift for the time being. There are reports of people facing problem with rattles and now the latest, the clutch which is serious.
