Maruti had modified headlights & taillamps in 2003, so need to know whether it's pre-2003 or post-2003 model along with details like current odo reading.
If you are going to be third owner, please ensure that RC book has name of second owner along with other papers.

Tyres: Don't go by just tread depth of tyres. If tyres are more than 5 years old, it's better to replace as rubber tends to degrade(loses air holding/retaining capacity) as time passes.

Is this the same one that you are talking about?

Maruti Zen Lxi 2002 Sale 2.3 Lacs - Bangalore

Some pointers about the 2002 Zen -
- It comes with an all Aluminium Engine which requires an overhaul ONLY at 3L Kms as compared to an Cast Iron Engine which generally requires an overhaul at 1L Kms.
- This model has been phased out my Maruti but spares are readily available at both markets as well as Maruti Centers ( I have one too)
- There is a service requriement at 40K Kms which requires changing lot of stuff (A/C Gas, Coolant, Engine Oil, Brake Oil, Gear Oil etc) and costs about 8-10K.
- IMO 2.3L for a Zen is steep. I had paid 2.7L for a Sep 2002 Lxi which had done 25K Kms in 2005 and now its 2008! It came with a Sony CD/Mp3 System and 6X9 Speakers on the rear parcel tray + Central Locking and Remote.
- Till date i have had no expense on this car (Except the usual service which costs about INR600 odd) and the ICE on which i had spent a good 30K + Of course the alloys which costed me about 12K.

Negotiate for about 1.5L on this one. At the most IMO the price should not exceed 1.8L.

i still own a 2002 vxi zen. tried to sell it through TRUE VALUE guys; price offered to me by various maruti dealers (spectra, sai services, fort point etc) varied from Rs. one lakh to one lakh thirty thousand plus the exchange bonous of twenty five thousand. so, effectively it could fetch me 1.3 -1.5 lakhs!my car is in immaculate condition; got new bridgestone tyres put just a couple of months back, also put the whole A/C unit changed ,autocop fit in and very well funtioning....bargained hard over it but in vain!what i do? retain my car ,bought a SX4 AND BOTH ARE BEING USED BY MY WIFE AND ME RESPECTIVELY.cheers:

For a second, I thought that you are buying a Zen plonked with a 2.3 litre engine

It is difficult to comment on this until you post essentials like model year, odo reading, some photos etc.

Pls post some of the basic requirements needed for getting suggestions as others has suggested. Alternatively, you can also visit New Cars, Used Cars, Buy Cars, Sell Cars, New Car Prices, Used Car Prices - CarWale.com India for finding out the right price. But you require the details here.

last year my friend bought a 2003 model new shape zen, for 2.7 lakhs. we know this was at a premium.

However this zen was loaded with skirts, complete ICE set up (with sub woofer), imported steering wheel and alloys, K&N filter, and run just about 15000.

I think still you are paying more for this car.
Bargain hard for less than 2L.

Hey guy's sorry for not mentioning the year. It's a 2003 July vechicle and has clocked 47K. There is just a cassete player alone and no other fancy things. Even i beleive the price is a bit high...Now i have another offer, a 2004 model one for same price. This one has clocked 35k, again is it a good deal??? iam yet to drive the vechicle though..
