Is Maruti Omni BS4 Compliant?

Today , I saw an Ad in a regional news paper (malayalam) , that now Omni is BS4 COmpliant. Is it correct? I did not see this in any other newspaper. Can members throw light on this?

Yes, it is now available in BS4 version. No other changes apart from lowering of emissions. But only petrol model has been upgraded. The LPG model is only available in BS 3 configuration.

So if the Omini is BS4 - does that mean that the 800 has been upgraded too!

If this is true then what about the news of Eeco being omni's replacement. And why did 800 suffered alone. Must be because of eeco's low initial sales.

All along I was thinking that the Eeco was positioned as a replacement to the Omni - now the fact that Omni is BS4 compliant is going to make things more complicated - only saving grace is the Eeco has an AC variant(and these days ac is a necessity rather than a luxury)

Yes, the Omni now meets BS IV emission norms. Does it also mean that the 800 was not made BS IV ready due to commercial reasons and not due to technical reasons? The 800 was losing its market and Maruti wanted the Alto to take its place. I however feel that the Omni should have been phased out along with the 800.

I wish they make the M800 BS IV compliant for some strange reason, M 800 should be given a more powerfull AC and power steering, and the Price bought down to about 150k, some may say I'm dreaming, but yes, if the above is done, I'll be the first one to buy, like the car for some strange reason.

If the BS-IV Omni is running the same 796 cc engine (which I think it is), your statement has nailed it. Come to think of it....the M800 was only selling 2,000 cars a month, the Alto a successful "successor" with a monthly average of 20,000 sales! The Omni, on the other hand, continues to clock 7,000 - 8,000 a month, despite the launch of the Eeco (only 2,700 in a month like March).

Its natural for Maruti to slowly phase out the M800, which it doesn't need anymore, unlike the Omni that is still a huge profit-generator.

If this happens then the Nano will have a seriously tough time. Even though the Nano meets modern safety regulations, people prefer a conventional bonnet in front of them(Peace having some metal as protection).

Bingo! We are currently in the process of collecting Maruti Eeco ownership reviews. And on about 40% of them, I see the same identical comment "Vis a vis the Omni, the Eeco feels safer as it has a bonnet-like area in the front"
